.... By dismissing an entire group of people ..
- Jeremy Laura

I dismiss nobody my friend.

I may not define success in life the same way most people do though. My criteria is "are you happy?"

I don't give a flip how someone got rich and do not think there is any benefit from studying the life story of anyone who did. I'd rather watch a hockey game (or take a nap).

Another food for thought considering things should be better by the time a playoff roles around I would be curious if the NHL will look to relocate the Playoffs to a hub that will be allowing fans at games.

I foresee fans in the buildings before then in certain states and hopefully some full attendance in certain areas by May.

Financial details and my own impatience aside being the last league to start up is probably for the best.

The NFL hasn’t been perfect and they do only play one game a week but they seem to have a bit of a handle on it now.

The NBA will probably be the ultimate test run for us, while their rosters are smaller the way that league operates is similar to what the NHL will likely be doing.

Long story short the NHL will be able to see what does and doesn’t work for the other leagues and can adjust accordingly.

I think you’re probably right, there’s probably some investigating on how other sports are making it work. Football has such a lucrative TV deal that they can get away with not having packed stadiums. The NBA has a good deal, but still relies on fans (not as much as NHL) so they are indeed a good test subject. I like where you’re coming from on this.

You’re more than welcome to your opinion, but note that saying “I don’t give a flip and do not think there is any benefit” is literally dismissing an entire group. You seem to be a bit hostile to people who get rich, and a good chunk of NHL players get rich. It may not last for many, but you’re still talking millions. It’s worth knowing about everyone. You may be surprised in what you find.

It’s a good point, for sure. Getting there is the big problem. It’s a lot of revenue loss up until then, and we need a new TV deal in the meantime. I haven’t heard much about that and I’m sure it’s going to weigh heavily on the return to play

I didn't ask for a life lesson, I was just sharing my opinion.

And I'm "hostile" to the assumption they deserve any more attention than the guy who works at the local Ford plant. I'm "hostile" to the worship of money and having success defined by its accumulation.

Hockey players get my attention because they are good at hockey and only get it while they are. I don't care what Wayne Gretzky is doing these days because it doesn't involve playing (or managing) hockey anymore. He did get more of it than almost all of the other people on this planet though, so that's not nothing.

People with piles of money get plenty of attention, they don't need mine too. I don't begrudge them in any way though. Good for them! I hope they're happy and live a long, fulfilling life.

Why not just vaccinate everyone involved in pro sports? I mean everyone who travels with a NHL, NBA, NFL, or MLS team.

Watching sports gives people a sense of normalcy .. and something to do while being locked down

Let’s have NHL Vaccine night for all the home openers and give out Covid 19 bobble heads.

I meant vaccinate the players so they can play in empty arenas until the rest of us have been.

Maybe "bubble" heads would be more appropriate.

I appreciate where you’re coming from. I’m trying to find balance. If the majority of writing was focused on owners and ignoring the players, I’d be working on that. No solutions come from elevating one and ignoring the other. There are good workers, and there are bad. I had a relative that would clock in, work for two hours, go home and sleep for 6, go back and work a little more and got overtime every check. 30 or 40 employees in that plant were doing cocaine on the hoods of the new cars in the lot. Without owners, we don’t have jobs. Without workers, jobs don’t get done. It’s symbiotic. Find the balance in that and within yourself, young grasshopper.

Should that be considered sanctimonious? My first take is yes.

The balance in society is way to far in favor of the fortunate and luck is too often overlooked (or marginalized). There seems to always be a "look at those bums" story handy when someone needs to disparage workers.

My balance is exactly were I desire at this point in my journey, and I'm far from young.

I appreciate the back and forth. You’re clearly imbalanced in how you perceive someone who has attained wealth. In this industry, the players are the center. The owners get lumped in as greedy and horrible. There are owners that fit that bill, and there are also players that fit that bill. I’m not trying to be sanctimonious. Just a plea that you would look outside of your own bias. Until you can do that and see and hear every side of this debate, you’ll come up short on understanding. Balance, symbiotic relationships, understanding without owners there are no paychecks, and without workers there are no products. Without the companies building more factories, there won’t be more jobs. Without workers, those jobs don’t get fulfilled. To hate one or the other is, in the end, to be self destructive.

Interesting update. San Jose planning to start the season in Arizona. We touched a bit on the California lockdowns, and the county the Sharks play in has a total sports ban. This could be a real boon for the Coyotes as this will mean some income heading their way. Canadian clubs could be keeping an eye on this while there is still a lot to get through in terms of a structure of how to get going. For Detroit, perhaps this could signal a possibility with setting up shop in either Columbus or Nashville if Michigan lockdown is too restrictive.

Some people need to realize that no successful millionaire or billionaire
will agree to pay any employees for not working an agreed upon number of hours.
In NHL, the number of hours translates to games played, it's pure and simple and cannot be disputed.
56 games season needs to have prorated pay.

Players who sit in press box get paid as if they had played the games.
Players are paid as per a season, which this upcoming one, is 56 games.

Another good piece Jeremy, will be interesting to see if this season even gets off the ground, gawd I hope so cause up in Canada people are really starting to lose their expletive minds with these insanely stupid restrictions, see what happened on an outdoor rink in Calgary for a perfect example of the insanity I'm talking about, maybe having some NHL hockey to watch will give us something to occupy our time stuck at home.
