I don’t know how many first rounders they traded away, I’d have to check...

Edit: I just checked, between 2015-2016-2017 they traded one first round pick (30th overall for Andersen), which is the equivalent of Benning trading our 2020 1st for Miller.

Then they traded 2 more. Nice cherry picking.

No, you’re cherry-picking, they traded back a couple times to acquire more picks, that’s not the same as trading away a 1st rounder for a player....good narrative though

2015 they traded the 24th pick for the 29th & 64th pick, they then traded the 29th pick for the 34th pick & 68th pick.

Essentially they traded the late first 24th pick for the 34th, 61st & 68th picks....that’s damn good management, at least in that case.

2016 they traded the 30th pick, a 1st rounder, and a 2nd rounder for Andersen.

2017 drafted 17th overall

2018 traded the 25th pick for the 29th and 76th.

All it took was a Vantel appearance and the sticks and stones start being tossed.

Looks like the Cardinals are going to 7-6 beating the Giants. Seahawks had better bring it today, no excuses against pretty much a CFL team

1st for Freddy. 1st to get rid of Marleau. 1st for a rental(Barrie). Yet the Canucks and their general mismanager have gone farther than the Leafs in the playoffs.

Lefty beats the drum about drafting high as possible non stop,,,, unless you are the Leafs and you trade your 1st round picks down the draft.... then it's great draft pick management.

Priceless.

come on, that was hardly during their rebuild. Contending teams trade first round picks like candy.

Obviously poor management decision trading a first (13th pick) away to get rid of Marleau, or even sign him in the first place, they did recoup the 15th overall pick by trading Kapanen though.

Not only did they need Kappy but were forced to let him go,,, by the logic you display over and over on here(Mccann), that is trading away a 1st as well as he went 22nd oa.

So that is another 1st rounder we can add to the list.

Contending teams... oh my god you are just killing it with this stand up routine.

They’re poorly managed, you’re not telling anyone anything they don’t know, however, if we focus on their rebuild years, they utilized the draft very well and they got lucky to win the first overall.

When you finish with 100+ points you’re contending, at least in those teams eyes, whether you agree or not. The Canucks just traded a first round pick after finishing in the bottom half of the league, where’s your criticism of Benning?

Don’t like Miller just say so. Playoffs vs not.

Benning was both lucky and good for picking Pettersson and Hughes. Lucky they weren’t ranked higher and that no other team saw their genius.

I’m not defending them, I’m saying multiple teams who feel they can contend trade late first round picks. Pittsburgh, NYI’s, Carolina, Boston and Tampa all traded first round 2020 picks because they thought they could win. Unfortunately for them only one team does.

Trading a 1st for Muzzin has nothing to do with rebuilding, Booner is just reaching badly, it has to do with them thinking they could win.

Benning got the Canucks into 17 games deep into post season hockey with moves like that. All those moves you love so much by the Leafs have gotten them no further than 7 games into the post season.

What does that have to do with utilizing the draft during a rebuild?
