Your team was as gritty and tough to play against as girgensons 😀

Yeah 6 goals 4 times and 5 goals 5 times. Might not have been the best in front of him some games, but he was bad. Maybe I am to hard on him, but I would rather see Jonas then him if it came down to it.

Thats what happens when you only have 1 line that can keep the puck on their sticks.

The 2nd and 3rd lines will be key. Although that duo will be able to overcome much of the intense focus foisted on them, having a robust mid-six will work wonders for them and the team.

Have we ever mentioned secondary scoring here?

- Michael Pachla

Nope. Just improve the goaltending and well be good.

Secondary scoring is always welcomed.

We would have made the playoffs last year though with better goaltending.

In an ideal world we get both.

not to take anything away from your assertion, but better goaltending and better defense will help as will a better pk and a pp that will be closer to top-10 as opposed to 20th last year...gonna need as much improvement as possible in all areas

If we scored a few more goals we would of been in too? If we had played montreal the next game and won we would of been in. Goaltending was not our problem last year but keep throwing it out there.

Improve the D and the goaltending will be better as long with the PK. Get some players that can actually move the puck around and create zone time so the pucks not always in our end.

If they had signed Pominville after Sobotka got hurt instead of waiting to land the big fish (Frolik) they would have been in. A million different things. It was bungle city. Repeatedly and consistently bungled

We had the 28th ranked PK.

We scored more goals then the Dallas Stars last season and they played in the cup final.

We played a heavily defensive system like they did as well. Their goaltending duo made the saves that ours didn’t.

The Sabres scored more goals then our closest comparables in style of play last year in CBJ, NYI, and DAL yet they made the playoffs and we didn’t.

Our goalies should have had much better numbers considering we were top 7 in the league in reducing high danger scoring opportunities. Ullmark had a .935 Sv % at even strength last year because we basically put up a wall in front of the guy.

However when you look at their individual analytical statistics they both ranked in the bottom half of the league in stopping high danger opportunities.

So basically any good scoring chance the other team would have on a nightly basis would go in, despite us reducing those said chances at a premium rate.

We will score more goals this year, probably give up more too unless Ullmark can start bailing out the defence instead of crumbling when he isn’t facing a harmless shot from the blue line that has a low probability of going in.

agreed...but goaltending was a huge issue during a long stretch in november prior to thanksgiving (2-8-1 record, 3.08 ga/game,) in late december (1-6-0 record, 4.00 ga/game) and late feb/early march 0-6-0, 3.67 ga/game)

i don't really dislike him, moreso a dislike for the pedestal he was placed upon and a bloated belief that his contributions the two years prior were regarded as meaningful

Not true at all.

He only wanted to play in Buffalo or Montreal or retire

You view those two years of Pominville how I view the three years of Gionta. Overrated and underwhelming. I still think Pominville (or 40 year old Brian Gionta for that matter) would have been better than waiting for the 19 games we got from Frolik

Carter Hutton = Sobotka

Ryan Miller = Pominville

The Sabres are going to put a black hole on the ice for 20 games and he's gonna win 4 of them

i liked gionta more, but quibbling over who's the better of two players past their prime is senseless...

agree about frolik, although i understand why he and his supposed pk acumen was targeted...frolik was a huge miss and a bigger waste of time

Not in a 56 game schedule. If he's decent, he'll get 15. If he's awful he'll get 10 or fewer. Ullmark can play 45+ if necessary like the year Lalime sucked and Miller had to play every game

Eh. Not sure about that.

45 would be 80% of the games played

That would be 65 games in an 82 game season and like 1-3 goalies play that much
