36 = good post
25th and 24 make it.
Goaltending was the reason why we didnt get at least a few more points. And to find out he had a vision problem.... that sealed the deal - Boss34 and ralph had a front row seat for huttons vision issues, kept playing him, or keeping him on the bench and using ullmark
pretty sure practices would have been better and the team better with johansson or the hamburgler and put hutton on ir
that is my biggest concern with the sabres right now
the gm is leaning on a guy who kept a 1 eye goalie on the roster for 2 months |

I think Kuemper gets us in
But apparently i like him more than some others - jdfitz77
if the yotes were to move one, it would be raanta IMO
and I doubt they move kuemper, esp if he is their better goalie |

griess, allen - homiedclown
They both played in defensive systems too,
especially Greiss
So why them over Kuemper?? |

It was reported they looked at moving him as well
My guess is bc he’d obviously a better return than Raanta |

That a big “if” imo
I think Ullmark would have to take a big leap for us to get a playoff spot in the tough division we’ll be playing in - jdfitz77
I think we will be top 5 scoring team and top 5 pp team
and a much better pk
plus we play the caps, pens, islanders, and rangers decent
and own the devils

Sounds like his eye works again and if he were to be 100% would this convo be happening? Hes a solid goalie when hes got 2 eyes. |

they have 2 young goalies like johansson, that could be the 1B
and raanta has this year left
I like either more then quick, maf or jones |

We should be able to get 4th if we have even just 2 scoring lines and our D and Ullmark take a step in the right direction. |

This team proved they can win and play good hockey during spurts over the last 2yrs, but they also proved when things fell apart they didn't know how to get themselves out of the hole. Veteran leadership wasn't there or good enough. Staal, Hall and Eakins will help that part out, but better goaltending would make it even better. |

islanders had anything but a defensive system before trotz came along
and I have been wanting griess for over 7 years now, very under rated goalie |

Yeah I'm willing to give Hutton one more chance if his eye issue has healed. I haven't heard anything about him still having any sort of issue, therefore I'm giving the Sabres the benefit of the doubt. He's a decent backup to Ullmark. I realize neither of them are elite goalies, but if we just get solid goaltending out of both of them, we SHOULD be fine.

Might as well its his last year on contract. If we improve anywhere right now it needs to be the D. Get rid of montour or Miller and get someone who can actually play the defense position defensively. |

He was bad the last 2 years.
His game fell off both times around December and never came back.
Started off hot.

You aren’t wrong about that. The offense will certainly not be the problem. |

Imagine if that all happened
AND
we also had a Vezina level goalie
That’s a team that could do damage in the playoffs imo |

Kuemper lead my top shelf cookies team to a first place finish last year. We have a positive relationship.
I'm not sure if I like him ullmark and a 1st though?
Mitts and ullmark, maybe we add a 1st and they add chychrun?
Mitts , ullmark and protected 1st
Kuemper and chychrun.
I know we have a bunch if defenseman, but he would be a good age fit and breakout candidate |

Only so many spots available |

You don’t need a vezina goalie. Notice how a lot of the top goalies have some godly teams in front of them.
Vaselisky is the most overrated goalie I’ve ever seen. He’s good but not elite great like he’s hyped to be
Look at the all star team in front of him.
Tukka Rask has been getting killed by fans. Why: the bruins have a great team and he consistently lets them down year after year. They want to trade him or hope he retires
Improve the defense .... goaltending numbers will improve. |

How about more zone time? Or another line to help Eichel last year??? We were second last in shots... Goaltending(Ullmark) was not our weakest point and still isn't. Can't blame the goalie when the pucks in your end of the ice more than half the game. - Keepcomplaining
Good points:
There were definitely other factors, but I feel comfortable blaming hutton for not earning 1 more point and getting in the playoffs.
Did he hide an eye issue? He let in a few softies in other games. Bad timing goals.
I could blame jbotts for no 2c - why not ? Sure |

His stats have been up & down over the last 7years
He’s got consistently good numbers lately playing in a defensive system
And If Greiss is so good,
why hasn’t he been able to make it as a starter over these past 7 years???
And u never gave a reason why Allen over Kuemper? |

Ok.... I’ll play along....
1- we don’t even have a legitimate STARTING GOALIE who’s PROVEN
2- how are we realistically making all the necessary moves to build a strong enough defense to help our current tandem???

You don’t need a vezina goalie. That was the point you tried to make.
Do the Sabres need a goalie upgrade?
Yes, they do.
They don’t need to spend a ton on a vezina goalie. That’s too much and not worth it. |

I hate to be fatalistic but I dont see a path for the Sabres unless "division" rivals suffer key injuries. If they were in the west, they're the 3 seed. The lack of inter-league play and no wild cards is a killer |
