Need is strong.

Need to win a super bowl, possibly. Need to be a dynasty, probably

Need to be consistently competitive? Not really

- sbroads24

There are so many other variables but there's no denying that having an elite qb gives a team the best odds of winning and winning it all...however, winning can be achieved in other ways, just not nearly as predominant in today's game

this particular game...

there are so many variables involved in winning that using absolutes is silly...

a great quarterback allows a team to make mistakes and still come out on top as opposed to those lower on the totem pole who need to limit mistakes...

and i don't think anyone would argue that point either

Funny stuff going on in here. Hey there's many ways to win a football game. Having a Elite QB sure helps, but isn't the only way.

actually, it's not "miniscule" by any means...tyreek hill and travis kelsey are crucial to mahomes success as they're elite at their positions...

on a bit of a lesser scale, brady had an elite TE in gronk and the best position receivers in the game at the time in wes welker and danny amendola...

those two qbs also played in systems designed by hall of fame coaches who got the most out of their role players in addition to molding their qb into the best player possible...

even with all that you still need health and/or depth, decent play (in the least) from your d and special teams (or at least timely plays,) and adversaries along the way who either couldn't hang with you or choked under pressure...

and that's not taking anything away from the qb's in those two examples

- Michael Pachla

Good post

Coaching is still underrated the the nfl.

Good coaches and qbs win superbowls.

How many non elite coaches have won the superbowl?

I’m honestly hoping at this point for one of Mayfield, Rivers, Lamar, Goff, Murray to win the Super Bowl this year to see the excuses as to why Mahomes, Allen, Rodgers, and Wilson all lost

They very well could win it.

They’d be part of that 23%.

Unless it’s Rivers, because he’d easily get in with a ring on top of his career

And Lamar won MVP last year

- sbroads24

And we’ve already been over how Brady was not elite for 3 of those 6 rings.

Wilson was not elite in 2013.

Manning was not elite in 2015.

Big Ben was not elite in 2005.

Drew Brees or Ben Roethlisberger winning the SB this year despite having seasons that wouldn’t be ranked amongst the top 10 passers in the 2020 year has nothing to do with what they have done over their careers.

This is so false it’s funny, but I’m not diving into the numbers.

He’s the greatest QB of all time. He’s been to 8 god damn Super Bowls

The ‘85 Bears and 2000 Ravens, two of the greatest defenses ever made 1 each.

Right, and those respective QB’s have as many rings as Brees and Rodgers do.

That’s all that matters.

True but I’ll take a go at it with the elite QBs route. Pegullavilles subconscious is championing his current flawed belief because (a) Denver has a good defense and (b) Denver has a lousy QB.

The only thing lock did today was hurt Denver’s draft position and lessen the chance of them acquiring an elite QB in the draft

And neither the Saints, nor the Packers even sniff a Super Bowl unless they have Brees and Rodgers. This is the entire part of the argument you fail to see. If it weren't for Rodgers, Roethlisberger, Brees, Manning, Manning and Wilson, Tom Brady plays in every Super Bowl of the last 20 years and wins probably 15 of them.

Miami lost today because “special teams don’t matter”

Jason Sanders missing a 45 yard field goal in the first half and the Dolphins giving up a Punt Return TD costed them the game.

It ruined a very good defensive showing today.

- Pegullaville

Can it be considered a very good defensive showing when they gave up nearly 450 yards of offense?

Tony Dungy is the worst "analyst" in the NFL. He is the equivalent of Doc Emrick.

They held the Chiefs to 26 offensive points and gave their team a chance to win today by creating 3 turnovers.

That Punt Return TD broke the game wide open.
