if cozens is ready for second line center, it will be his

then the question is, do they move staal to rw, where he has played before or third line center

cozen has more upside then an aging staal if ready

just like quinn has more upside then rieder, if ready

- homiedclown

Well, let's hope so...last year he was on a 55 - 60 pt pace...not bad for his age.
I can see Cozens earning it by seasons end, I read your post as starting this season...again, to which I would be surprised

this is what I see will be different this year

in years past, some guys had no shot to make the big club no matter how well they did

signing hall pushes all the chips to the center of the table and if certain kids are ready, they will get the minutes

cozens is a legit second line center with upside

Quinn has potential right now to score more goals in a shortened season then a lot of the projected bottom half of the roster

- homiedclown

Does he?
Just bc he’s more talented, doesn’t mean he can be effective
I’m sure i don’t need to list the long line of high picks we’ve tried to force into the lineup too early,
do i?

Plus.... They’ll have to quarantine after the World JRs if I’m not mistaken
That means Quinn & Cozens are gonna miss ALL of training camp-
so it’s gonna be pretty hard to see Cozens START at 2C
And the same for Quinn to just be gifted a spot in the top9. I could see him get a 9 game tryout though if he looks good in the tourney

Just seems like you’re assuming these kids are “ready” for big roles
And i think we all should’ve learned our lessons by now in that regard

Are u hearing that ppl think Quinn is ready?

they signed him right away

right now our second line rw is tage
our third line rw is okposo

so unless your flipping skinner or olofsson to rw, I think if he is ready in training camp he sticks, assuming it's middle 6 minutes

if they put him on a line with hall and eichel, what would be a realistic expectation?

he has a two way game

he would do better then a pylon

people said only a pylon was needed with jack, throw hall on the other wing

I think it's tage or quinn

Could be Girgensons too.

Hall-Eichel-Girgensons
Skinner-Staal-Cozens
Olofsson-Reinhart-Thompson
Ruotsalinen-Eakin-Okposo

I’d like to see them move Reinhart to the middle with two wingers that can pull the trigger and see what happens.

The Sabres had a need for a goal scoring winger.

With Eichel and Cozens as play driving center man and Quinn being a respectable 200 foot winger with the goal scoring acumen i can definitely see the fit.

Time will tell if selecting for need/fit is better then selecting the BPA.

Ding, ding, ding!

I still maintain the Prospect evaluations had Character elements weighted higher than in years past..while maintaining a high desire for superb skill sets...not either or.
Rossi and Quinn (-and probably more) had those boxes checked off in spades...so they came out relatively even.
The last consideration and therefore tie-breaker was Position...so to Homie's and your posts, they selected the Winger that fit their biggest positional need from probably several near equals.

The fact they were trying to move down from 8 to 11th suggests to me they knew they could get their highest rated player a few selections later AND pick up another pick (2nd? )....that is smart. When they couldn't, they showed some balls and went for their man. If that is a "reach" than so be it.

While I really, really wanted Rossi, I also can't hang them out to dry...yet, I admit it would have been nice to have the guy I wanted all along to root for in Blue and Gold...like with Cozens last year.

The selection based on our need for that type of prospect always made logical sense.

My gripe has always been about picking a player for need over BPA.

Quinn filled the biggest need in our pipeline as a right handed shot with top 6 upside as a goal scorer.

I just think picking the player with the higher upside is the more sustainable business model.

I hope Quinn skates to the slot with his stick on the ice and deposits feeds from Eichel into the back of the next for the next 10 years.

I just hope it’s not of the expense of Marco Rossi becoming Brayden Point 2.0 and making the Wild a legit contender for a long time playing with Kaprisov and Fiala

Joe Buscaglia, who I think does a very nice job in analyzing games, and who has a high success rate in picking the winner of Bill's game has predicted a close game but chose the Steelers by 3.

I am feeling pretty good about the game if Milano plays a good junk of the plays. They just need to mount a decent pass rush and tackle well to keep the short passing game to short gains...force more FG's than TD's.
Bill's Offense should be able to take advantage of Steelers D. Run some draws and screens to slow down Watts et all, and fry their 3rd string LB's.

I'm ok if Rossi turns into Point, as long as Quinn turns into Mike Bossy!

2 things:
1st- Cozens also has RW potential in the top6
2nd- Quinn will miss all of training camp bc of the World JRs & then having to quarantine

I’ve never seen Quinn play, just some highlights
So i couldn’t really guess
But would it be more than Mitts, or Tage, or Ruotsalainen?

I’m not saying he doesn’t have talent
But i haven’t seen even 1 person say they think he’s ready for the NHL

And without a training camp to prove he is,
it all just seems very unlikely to me

Like i said before....
maybe if he looks good in the tourney he’ll get the 9 game tryout here,
but that’s the most I’m counting on at this point
