Bold move naming a captain who's playing on another team.
I like it.

He doesn’t want to call out individual players so he groups them all together.
But we know who he’s implying. The guy who won’t engage in battles, block shots, backcheck.. - Arctic_AARDVARK
Does that really narrow it down?

But you think that guy plays like that all the time so why would Dubas call him out for playing like that in the playoffs. The fact is that, except for Matthews, the big guys didn’t play very well in the playoffs. |

48 games or less and he’s gawn!
I know many Leafs fans think everything is peachy in Leafland, but they missed the playoffs last year and Dubas won’t be back next year if that happens again. They need to win a round or more. |

I agree, Matthews was fantastic against CBJ in the play in round.. Too bad about Muzzin though.. Bless his soul |

We know he’s not talking about Matthews and Marner.
Yes, Muzzin injury hurt, but mostly because they didn’t have any other defenceman who could step in. Because they decided to spend heavy on offence, which I think he regrets. |

Dubas did acknowledge the importance of leadership, and took blame for it.. I think he's a good GM.. I do like that he is wiling to try new things and isn't stuck to just one line of thinking.
Edit: I was talking about Marner... Why would a player admit to not being "engaged in the play" in Game 1? |

Leaders have to show humility.
Kudos on Mitch for doing so.
Also, he probably should’ve chose different words. But he was trying to take responsibility, unlike a certain other player.. 😒 |

Marner sucked as much as nylander did during the play-ins.
Marner is making 4million more then nylander.
Nylander had a better regular season compared to marner if your talking dollars to dollars.
Marner was complete poop during the play-ins and will be better next year I’m sure. Thinking these guys don’t get intimidated by their giant contracts and learning to play with them is an understatement. Nylander sucked when he got his. Marner sucked when he got his.
Matthews is the only true beast on this team and I think he should’ve been named captain. |

I think there was three clear-cut choices and of the 3, none were a bad choice.
Personally, I'd have given it to Rielly. |

Nylander saw zero d-zone draws.
Both put up 4 pts.
Nylander -3
Marner -1
But go off... |

As stated above, only Matthews stood out in the play-in round.. For whatever reason, Marner didn't play well in any of the 5 games.. I don't know what it was, but he wasn't impressive at all and made his fair share of mistakes |

Rielly was a good option too. Dubas said he came forward to Keefe and told him Barrie should take his spot on pp1 to get his confidence up. He does sound like a good leader.
I just think Matthews picks the team up and puts them on his back. If Rielly could do that from a defensive point of view I would agree. I just think is a good person, but Matthews seems to be able to set the tone on the ice. |
