Not the same thing. It's hard to explain and very personal, let's just say that my dad's life was greatly diminished, childhood robbed, family wealth taken away, his father and grandfather were both murdered(he witnessed their deaths as a young boy) He saw things that no one should see. It's not something I joke about.

Trump has no equal in my view as a bad president. The worst thinig he has done in my view isn't that he ignored those suffering from poverty, hunger and death from covid. His worst action is using social media to propagate lies and incite his followers to acts that have led to civil unrest and possibly civil war. The threat to fairness, decency and democracy as we know it are real. Remember also that a dictator is powerless without complicity. Others have to look on without taking action or take part in the action for the atrocity to occur.

Had the ref not allowed Jones to hold Tyson's arms for much of the bout, he might have kissed the canvas. Tyson looked to be in very good form for his age. I've never seen Tyson even remotely as gracious and kind after a fight.

Please look up the word compare. It does mean that you are saying two things are the same. Comparing means examining the similarities and dissimilarities between two things.

Comparing the two simply means to try to understand Trump’s anti democratic, racist policies in historical context. That doesn’t mean anyone thinks they’re the same. I don’t get why that’s so hard to understand.

That's is the problem. What ever obvious to you, not obvious to me and many others on the other side of politics.
I am pretty much outsider, was leaving in Soviet Union in 70s and 80s and worked in Kibuz in Israel. So I came to Canada 16 years ago. As you see I saw some ugly regimes and have some personal experience, especially with Socialism.
We are on different sides here and only time can tell who was right and who wrong.
My biggest concern is Canada. The U.S will figure it out, but we have much bigger problem here.
Like said J.Peterson: "We have a peaceful society here in Canada, but we working hard to fix the problem"
I understand where are you coming from, but I will stick to my opinion.

Putting Trump aside, you can argue that someone is a fascist like Hitler was a fascist without insulting Jews. Hitler was both a fascist and a genocidal murderer. Rampant nationalism and scapegoatism are parts of fascism even if 6 million aren’t killed.

I don’t think anybody seriously compared Trump to Hitler and some of the terms are short hands to suggest the drift towards autocratic, nationalistic tendencies which are real.

Comparing Trump to Hitler is completely appropriate and important. That is different than equating them. Nobody is saying that Trump is responsible for the death of 6 million Jews.

Trump and Hitler are both ethno nationalists. They share characteristics in approaches and language and understanding those shared characteristics, understanding and comparing the economic and social forces in the 30's to those today is important.

I would say that we all have a responsibility to pay very close attention to autocratic and anti-democratic, racist politicians like Trump. Using a term like Orange Hitler isn't offensive. It's mostly a joke, but beyond that it's a reminder of an ugly path that is easier than many people think to follow.

We disagree about Trump. People who do see anti democratic tendencies look for similarities with others, including Oban from Hungary, Erdogan, and the fascists of the 30’s to try to better understand what’s happening.
