Putting Trump aside, you can argue that someone is a fascist like Hitler was a fascist without insulting Jews. Hitler was both a fascist and a genocidal murderer. Rampant nationalism and scapegoatism are parts of fascism even if 6 million aren’t killed.

I don’t think anybody seriously compared Trump to Hitler and some of the terms are short hands to suggest the drift towards autocratic, nationalistic tendencies which are real.

Good post. There are many unacceptable actions that we have seen in North America. Two that come to mind are the Reform Schools that the Indigenous People of Canada were subjected to, another would be the internment of Japanese citizens during WW2. Trumps antics will be added to these regretable parts of North American history. Luckily he will be gone soon.

Actually Zezel: If you know your history, the comparison is quite offensive. Remember that over six million Jews (civilians not military personnel) were totured, robbed of their wealth and murdered. Trump's crimes pale in comparison. Anyone that has a personal connection gets pissed off when comparisons to that architect of attempted genocide are made. As a note for those not aware, the Jewish population of the planet has still not recovered or reached its pre WW2 levels.

So in making the comparison, it is pointing out the characteristics of fascism, that we might not forget them and in calling them out we prevent another Hitler. In this sense it honours the Holocaust. But certainly the term should open up this dialogue, not just be used lightly.

I moved back to Alberta! i was worried i wouldn't find a good job and housing in Pickle for the winter, so i took a job on a paving crew here. It worked out well tbh, i made decent $ and got EI for the winter. Im in Calagry rn, but ill likely move to canmore/banff soon.
