At the risk of sounding like Ayn Rand, having a healthy economy promotes public health

Tell that to the various mime school operators across our great nation!!

- TheMussel

I was gonna say, one could argue that miming is apart of the arts, no?

it's a no-brainier if i had to choose between my kid playing and watching hockey; or any sport/activity for that matter.
- Tumbleweed

I always laugh when I see people make this statement, because there have been a few times over the years where I haven't been able to go to really, really good Leafs games because my kids' hockey conflicts.

Yes, I've gone to my kids' hockey every single time, but I'm not going to pretend it was an easy decision.

Some times it really, really sucked.

And if it was a practice for the home opener, my kids would be on their own. And I'm the coach!

Someone in a bureaucratic position will have to, and I suppose their methodology will be to first determine how to reduce mortality in the least amount of time, and then how to most benefit the economy in the least amount of time
- TheMussel

I'm just going to bump this, in the hopes that it will eliminate a lot of the fighting going on here, when nobody is actually arguing different sides.

Musli has it bang-on here.

It's first going to go to front-line healthcare workers and the severely immuno-compromised.

Then to other front-line workers and those in danger.

Then to those who have the greatest economic impact.

I should also point out here that if we are talking about the Leafs, they have a unique arrangement with the provincial government where they don't quite follow the same rules as those of us with an OHIP card. My wild guess is that they will buy some vaccine from a source outside of Canada and give it to the players, and it won't be illegal.

If you're arguing that miming is a part of the arts, I disagree.

If your typo isn't actually a typo, then I agree.

Jesus, indeed.

We agree on this point. I even made a couple of references to my wife being immuno-compromised being at the front of the line. And guess what? She does not work for an essential service.

There are clearly a number of tiers that are above sports but I argue that sports is pretty essential to life in North America. I would argue that music and arts are in the same position as sports: they provide essential entertainment that is consumed by, and enriches, our culture economically, psychologically, and socially.

I dismissed your very specific mime analogy because hockey is orders of magnitude more important to this society than mime.

My argument has never been that hockey players should take precedence. But I think there is a very real argument that some non-essential industries should be elevated above the general public.

- mjones242

And there was no possibility that the inclusion of mime as a priority for getting a Covid vaccination was a joke?

Official party colour is yellow
