Oh, I’ll get one early. I know you’re worried about me. I’ve been eating like crazy and eating salt to increase my co-morbidities.

Somebody on Ek’s thread suggested getting vaccines to hockey players right after nurses and docs - Canada Cup
Immuno-compromised should obviously take precedence (assuming it'll work for them, of course).
Before we go off on sports players being a priority a dumb thing, we should consider the positive externalities that sports provides our culture. From providing entertainment to a COVID-19 starved society, to recognizing the financial impact sports plays on small businesses (especially bars & restaurants), etc.
If there were a "hierarchy" of vaccine needs, I surely wouldn't be high up on the list and I'd certainly place those in sports much higher up the food chain. Having said that, my wife is immuno-compromised so she should be pretty (frank)ing close to the front of the line and well ahead of AM34's mustache. |

Do they supply the same financial impact as regular people out buying items from local businesses? Dont believe so.
Cause who cares if sports is on tv in a pub that cant be opened because the general public doesnt have vaccines etc.
Fack those in sports, people have a serious problem if they think millionaires athletes should be higher up a hierarchy than the regular public. I havent missed sports, but I have missed going into shops when I need to or going for a beer with friends.

First of all, the moustache is an essential worker. Let’s not get ridiculous.
Secondly, the priority is on protecting people from dying before protecting people from getting bored.
There’s also a long line of vulnerable people and people performing essential services that have to work and who are getting sick in big numbers (agriculture, meat packing, trucking, sanitation, besides all the obvious health and police). |

my kids being in school and playing sports are far ahead of professional sports and the brain numbing passive entertainment they provide.
vaccines should be made available to high risk people first and foremost. if most people over 65 choose to get vaccinated deaths will drop dramatically. once that's done, the vaccine should be made available to others who want it. |

Financial impact isn't the only metric I was trying to relate to. Sports is woven into the fabric of our culture like few other enterprises. The externalities are not just financial - they are emotional, psychological, and social in nature. People come together for these kinds of things and there is a financial and cultural impact that is most definitely felt.
This isn't about privileging "million dollar athletes" over "regular" folk but you are certainly allowed your reductive take. Not every athlete is playing in top tier leagues professionally or making millions of dollars.
You haven't missed sports and yet here you are in a (frank)ing sports forum conversing with sports fans. Irony.
Look, I'm not suggesting that sports players should be higher on the vaccine list than those who are health care workers, are immuno-compromised, or in positions where they can spread the virus far more than "regular" public types. Not at all.
What I am suggesting is that there aren't many people who are even playing professional sports, it'd be a drop in the bucket, and the positive externalities are much more impactful than you can imagine. |

I agree high risk and health professionals first.
but lets not forget the importance of sports, its not just brain numbing passive entertainment. Maybe it is for you but who cares.
"Sports play a large role in the U.S. economy – larger than many would think. ... The sports industry accounts for roughly $14.3 billion in direct earnings each year, with an average salary of $39,000 per job (of around 456,000 jobs)."
Jobs and a lot of money is on the line here. It is important.
A lot of people are out of work, not just millionaires are employed by sports leagues. |

What about mimes? I bet there are thousands of people who miss mimes and opera and new movies and live theatre, and local live music all of which provide just as much entertainment and just as much if not more spin off employment.
Do you put sports ahead of manufacturing? No government can make they decision.
You have to be driven by health and essential services. If you start to prioritize by industry, sports is low on the list
