Think we have about 3.5mill - Buff36
Also worth noting that the Sabres have $3.49 in potential bonuses to pay out this year. Mitts is some of that and he might not be on the team, but dAHLin, Cozens and Joker will probably get some of that. Basically the Sabres have very little cap space |

With last year's overages, plus potential bonuses this year (if maxed - unlikely), we're over the cap.
And that doesn't include the addition of Cozen's 925k, and the potential additions of Pilut or Mittelstadt.

How much cap room do Sabres have to work with? TB still sitting at $2 million over cap with Cirelli and Cernak needing new deals. Palat and Killorn could be trade targets, as TB seems reluctant to give up any top prospects in order to move Johnson. Assuming their goal is to become cap compliant, they could be had for prospects and picks. Article on main page about their situation about how their prospects are more important than keeping Killorn and Palat to sustain their success.

“If BrisBois can pull the Lightning under the salary cap while re-signing Cernak and Cirelli to reasonable deals, giving up Palat and Killorn, and not surrendering prospects, then the Lightning will consider it a successful offseason.” - Ratsreign

So they’d have to dump one or two of their “surplus” Dmen for picks/prospects and then turn around and try to deal with TB. Wonder if they are exploring this at all. |

Chicago was in a cap crunch the year after they won their first Cup in 2010. They had to make some hard decisions, and re-tool, but won two more Cups after that. The Lightning will probably have to do the same thing. As long as they don't make a boneheaded mistake like shipping off Brayden Point, they'll be fine.

Crap is relative on a cup-winning team, but Palat at $5.3 with a NMC is pretty crappy |

I do believe the ~$1.5m in bonus coverage from last year is included in that current $78.0m Cap hit, but like you said it excludes Cozens, and obviously any Bonuses earned in the upcoming season.
Those 2 together should be around $2.5m or more...leaving $1m left to cover call-ups and protect against additional Bonuses. They could however create about $750k in additional space if they chose to defer 50% of the Bonus Overage into '21-22.
They would need to move someone to be able to bring in Palt, Kilorn, Johnson, etc....IMO of course...need to be careful since the Two-faced Biased Asshat thinks that reality is just my preference |

He has only two years left and that nmc becomes modified his las season. That said, I'd still make them pay dearly to take that contract off their hands. |

Maybe he’s more a product of who he’s playing with, but he’s been solid all around. I’d take that cap hit for the two years left on his deal. |

The last two forwards the Lightning should move are Point and Cirelli.
No I’m not being sarcastic.

It does, but then they would need to backfill for a LhD, preferably a 2nd Pairing |

True. 2nd pairing might be a reach though. I've mentioned Ben Hutton before. He's not quite 2nd pairing but would be solid and come at a low cap hit |

I’m assuming you could get him for minimal cost, some combination of picks (definitely not a first rounder) and/or a middling prospect. That would be the sweetener, getting a solid, proven NHL contributor for almost peanuts. |

Palat put up 41 pts in the regular season and 18 more in the playoffs being a perfect plugin and Stamkos replacement with Point and Kucherov. He added great value to that line doing the dirty work, crashing the net and being a solid 200' player. He did benefit playing with those two studs, but they benefited from him as well.
His style would be a perfect fit with Hall and Jack, but he is a LW. Same with Kilorn.
I just don't think The Bolts are a good trade partner for the Sabres |
