So he really has 2 Cups,
but was on superior teams to any Miller played with
IMO of course
I know we had 2 really good teams with Miller,
but those Wings teams were littered with the
Hall of Famers that those good Buffalo teams just didn’t have
Idk of my opinion only matters at certain times though?
I know at least one troll who has an opinion on that, so maybe u can pretend to care what he thinks, bc i just don’t at all |

So, to simplify
NBC has the US TV contract for the NHL, including the Playoffs
NBC has the US TV contract for the Olympics starting July 20sh
If the NHL Playoffs extend further than 7/20sh, there is a broadcast conflict
NBC would not want to lose value by having viewership of either broadcast lost to the other...makes complete sense.
Hence, NHL Playoffs need to be completed by the time the Olympics start.
If the Olympics are cancelled, then that changes it...maybe too late though by the time they make that decision.
Also, Bettman and Daly have stated publically that they want the 021 season to start relatively on time and have a somewhat normal offseason timeframe as much as possible. The thought the league was moving to a later start permanently was a bunch of speculation. - IonSabres
Wanting to have a normal season timeframe for the 21-22 season is a big pivot from what they were aiming for regarding an updated schedule, as the NHL was gung ho on the idea of a January to September season schedule going forward. I'm guessing the ratings or lack thereof for the playoffs last season played a big part in that.
https://www.espn.com/nhl/...-path-normal-20-21-season
There's also this from the article above:
Daly also shot down the widely speculated notion that the Stanley Cup must be awarded before the 2021 Summer Olympics in Tokyo, which was assumed given the NHL and Olympics share a U.S. broadcast partner in NBC.
"I think there is some flexibility if we were to choose that route," Daly said. "There's a lot left to be played out on the Olympics front, too. So I would just throw that in -- we clearly have models that extend past the Olympic time period. Those are alternatives that are on the table. I can't tell you they're the ones that are necessarily going to be pursued, but I think there's some flexibility there." |

I dont think Miller or Osgood should make it. I really hate the Osgood debate. All he has is wins. He's Felix Potvin with cups and a longer career |

Thanks for providing.
Interesting take by Daly, a head scratchers is probably a better way to describe it.
I'd love to hear what options Daly has for a 4th, probably 5th rated sport to effectively compete with the Olympics should they decide to. Also, I'd love to be in the meeting to watch the NBC side listen to that proposal...should last about 30 seconds in, IF they even agreed to meet.
Honestly, it reads like a posturing move made in the media to convince the player-side of something...all I can figure because it makes zero sense. |

I wouldn't read too much into it. I can't blame them for at least asking themselves internally if there was a way they could make it work by going past the Olympics. It doesn't sound like anything more than brainstorming to me at this point.
The Olympics themselves are also far from a guarantee. |

I don't see how the Olympics are an option unless the vaccine is available to everyone by May which is possible but it is still something to be concerned with |

It's definitely a possibility/concern, but the overall trend in sports throughout the world is that they are figuring out a way to make things work. Even the Big Ten and the Pac-12, who unnecessarily panicked at the beginning, got back onto the field.
Granted, the Olympics being a global event in one location poses its own unique set of challenges, but if past precedent is any indicator, there will be some form of competition, even if there are fewer events, and fewer athletes participating.

The sheer cost to host the Olympics is insane, where in normal years they don't come close to breaking even, can you imagine spending all that money and not even getting all the events?

LA did well financially when they hosted last time. Greece and Rio not so much. It's all about have a plan to use existing infrastructure and sustainably reuse the new facilities and housing after the torch is extinguished.
Seems like the Olympics should just be held in the same place every time but that'll never happen |

As a goalie, I approve this message. So tired of decent goalies getting high praise because they were on great teams. The Jonathan Quick's of the world deserve their Cups for their performances in that limited sample. To get to the HoF you should've been one of the biggest contributors on a great team, not riding the coat tails of such a team.
Imagine Osgood's picture up between Dryden and Roy or Hasek and Plante. Ridiculous. |
