The league made the deal during Covid. Their lack of foresight is their issue. If I sold a home 6 months ago and found out today it's worth 20-30% more I can't ask for a do over and have them send me money. The league isn't offering anything back to the players for this delay in receiving their money, no interest on their money, just saying take less money because we are asking you to. Can you honestly tell me if you were in that position you'd just say no biggie, let's play? It's easy for us to say just do it and get back to playing because it's not our money, our family's livelihoods, our ability to produce generational wealth on the line. It's easy for us to say as we're just fans who want to watch puck. Pretending it should be as easy for the players is unfair to them and ignores the reality of how the situation came to be - Takemedrunkimhome
I was under the impression that both parties (the players and the league) had to compromise, so that they can play. I understand that as fans it's easy to complain and cry about how the players are egocentric bumholes, but my point was that with such huge salaries it wouldn't be the end of the world if they kept a portion of the money on ice (lol) for a while and then gave it back... like I said I'm probably missing a part of the story here because I don't see where the players become the biggest losers here |

On aurait pu croire que depuis le temps que le projet a commencé (2 ans?) le sujet de qui paye la station a l'aéroport aurait été abordé par quelqu'un.

I guess my point is fans always want the millionaires to eat it and play while the billionaires use the extra money on another ivory back scratcher. The owner's know fans will always back them over players in negotiations because for some reason they always do and so they use that pressure on the players. It's unfair. I'm fully confident Molson could pay the next 3 seasons of salaries in full today without it truly impacting his business. The league is just using the pandemic and fan pressure to push the deal that benefits them most |

it's not that players become the biggest losers, it's that they negotiated 3 months ago, and now owners want to reopen the deal??
players gave a little, gained a little in that negotiation. so now if owners want to reopen, imo THEY have to give a little. no?
on the other hand, if players play, they'll get some $$. if they don't play they'll get nothing. |

well, judging by the fans' reaction when they see Buttman, they should logically be on the player's side of things, but we've seen many times that fans can be quite bipolar and have contradicting opinions lol... but yeah, if as you mention the league is indeed instrumentalizing the pandemic to their advantage then yes players should stand their ground and seek a deal that's fair for everyone |

A deal that's fair to everybody likely doesn't exist. In this life you get what you negotiate. The league got the short end of their own deal and are now trying to push through concessions without offering any benefits really.
NFL fans are worse, they straight up get racist and act with a plantation mentality |

As the NFL learned in the 80s with replacement players that strategy may only take you so far. Hell the NHL was treating the players like farm animals until Gretzky forced the issue in the early 90s |

well I guess in this case the "fair deal" would be to keep what was initially negotiated then... anyways I really hope they get this done and start in January, it would suck balls for both the fans and the sport in general to have no hockey at all |
