So there's an article in the Toronto star where Jack Han said he wouldn't be shocked to see Keefe try out a completely new strategy of putting 3 defensemen and 2 forwards on the ice.
I must say, I'd love to see someone try it out. No idea if it would work but it's nice to see people thinking outside the box. - Scabeh
I read that, it is the absolute worst argument ever made. The Leafs sacrifice offense just to maybe be more defensively responsible. Might as well try to start Andersen and Campbell at the same time.. See if the refs notice.. |

Why do all the government "experts" keep asking epidemiologists about the COVID-19 virus, when it doesn't affect the skin?

I must say, if there's one team I wouldn't expect going with that strategy, it's the Leafs.
But a team who would have plenty of good defensemen... maybe....
Again I'm not saying it would work, just would be interesting to see it in action.

I heard he's going to run a 4-4-2 with two strikers. |

The only teams that should ever try the 3 defenders are the Sharks with Burns/Karlsson or any team with Jake Gardiner. |

If so, it made no sense to sign 17 forwards |

I really don't understand what the point would be, like do we really need 3 jake gardiners behind the net at the same time?
Someone's gotta be on the wings waiting to break out regardless of hockeydb position |

I don't see why the Leafs would try that.. They'll limit Marner's ice time to give more ice time to Bogosian |

I agree, Leafs are probably one of the worst teams to try something like that out.

OK, so I just made the mistake of reading that. Oh boy.
The argument has a fatal flaw: it assumes that Rasmus Sandin can be a better defensive centre than Alex Kerfoot.
It's a great idea when you are coaching Atom houseleague.
It's a terrible idea at the highest level.
Why not just tell your centre to play as defensively as possible? |

Who is Jack Han and is he just speculating? - Canada Cup
"Now age 31, he’s already worked for both of Canada’s heritage NHL franchises, most recently wrapping up a three-season stint working for the Maple Leafs as an assistant coach for the AHL Marlies. Before that, he was a writer for the Montreal Canadiens’ website who occasionally caught a lift on the team’s charter jet. And since he parted ways with the Leafs organization earlier this year, after new Marlies head coach Greg Moore revamped the staff, Han has been one of the more productive writers in the game. Along with releasing a flagship book — “Hockey Tactics 2020,” edited by Hall of Fame hockey writer Michael Farber — he’s added a couple of other titles to his catalogue, including “Chel Guide,” an exploration of how players can use an NHL video game to improve at actual hockey." |

Who is Jack Han and is he just speculating? - Canada Cup
"In a recent edition of his Hockey Tactics Newsletter, Han discussed the potential merits of icing two forwards in front of three defencemen, as opposed to the typical allotment of three and two. Han is of the belief that Keefe, with whom Han worked on the Marlies, may be inclined to try such a strategy in the coming season.
“I haven’t talked to Sheldon (since writing about the concept) but I would say the likelihood is pretty high. I think you’ll see some of that,” he said." |
