thanks, you too. celebrations are on the same day in the US?
- Pat1993

While it started using Armistice Day as a day to celebrate all the armed servicemen who fought in WWI/The Great War/The War to End All Wars, we now officially call it Veterans Day, and use it as a day to mostly celebrate all of the service men or women of the armed forces, whether they are still living or are now dead, regardless of when they have served.

We—always a grateful nation—instead set aside Memorial Day to specifically remember, honor, and mourn those who have died while in the armed forces. It's always celebrated every year on the last Monday of May.

Following the partitions in the late 18th century, Poland ceased to exist for 123 years until the end of World War I, when the destruction of the neighbouring powers allowed the country to reemerge

123 years, that's a long frickin' time

- Pat1993

Yep, and even then it wasn't like now, it included western Ukraine and some of Belarus, but the west of modern day Poland was German with I think some Czech regions in the south, around the Klodzko valley.

Generational thing. Good luck seeing a teenager wear a poppy. They don't even get why they're a thing

to be honest, while I respect veterans and what they did, Remembrance day isn't something that particularly "gets to me"

they only let so many people inside. most places have set up outside tables. i only do outside tables if i go out at all.

it's too much too fast probably, judging by the numbers, and a lot of people who were venturing out are starting to reverse course now. we were going to have a small group to my sister's house for thanksgiving. like 8 people total. but we called that off today.
