They can still select a player that doesn't meet that threshold, provided they have more than 2 years of ahl/nhl experience. Players such as Hughes are exempt.
IIRC it was to ensure that the expansion team had a chance of getting players who at least had some nhl experience.

Why is Hughes exempt from expansion?

I don't think you understood the D part of the protective equation. Its not about the forward list either on what you and Golfer spoke about. OJ shows well they will want to protect him. Plus if they add another good D, like Cernak, then that will do it too. That would rule over protecting Gaudette, JV and Lind.
- NuckUp

So you give up Myers and his 6M a year contract.

If Gaudette and JV have seasons like they just did. I'd still give up Myers to save 6m in cap space.

Today's #ReachDeep Poll Q: You can have one young defenseman to build your NHL team around. Who do you choose?

Hughes
Dahlin
Makar
Heiskanen

————————————————————————-

Anyone see this? I mean, they’re all fantastic, I get it’s the off-season, but would you really complain with any of them? I’d pick Dahlin, he’s the youngest and he’s the biggest.

Because he’s short like Ruby, they get special treatment

Thought that was only if you didn't have the required number of players meet the threshold.

First and second year players are exempt.

If Juolevi pays well and if they acquire another quality defender like Cernak and if Jake, Gaudette and Lind have nice seasons, all they have to do is offer Seattle a PTL...Please Take Loui and Canucks give up Rafferty and Rathbone or Brisebois.

I believe the threshold is anywhere from 6-9 games.

As much as you or others don't like his cap hit the Canucks don't have RSD replacements for him. I doubt they expose Myers for cap room to keep forwards that they have an abundance of coming in.

Got to be Dahlin.

Question is who do you pick 2nd?

You've got 5 or 6 D fighting for the 3rd pairing this coming season. Young kids, one or two or three could make Myers very expendable.

As much as QH is great for the Canucks right now I'd do Dahlen, Heiskanen and Makar; in that order. Funny enough same as their draft numbers: 1OA 3OA, 4OA and 7OA

They won't allow teams to hide players in the ahl etc.
The Bobfather( I think), did a lengthy article on this before the Vegas expansion.

Myers is top 4. OJ/Rathbone may join that eventually as LSD to replace Edler. But only Chatfield is RSD, now, who's got a chance to beat out Benn not Myers. Rafferty has less of a chance to make NHL, even, forget replace Myers. Rafferty from all reports by Canucks, comes off as a Pouliot type at the NHL level.

Are you saying this because you're not counting on a season of games before expansion draft?

No, because he only played 5 games that 1st season. I believe Carol has mentioned this in a recent blog as well.

Makes sense.

It's not as if Seattle has much of a choice though because they need to reach the cap limit.

Looking back at what Vegas picked for a team, was pretty poopty. They maybe got 6 players but then the trades came in. Allowed them to round out the team. I can see why they ended up having such a good season to start with.

Myers is a 4/5 D at best. Sooner or later Van is going to find a replacement to which they can't be paying the 3rd pairing D 6M a season.

I could see Seattle being quite rich on 4/5 defensemen. They will be players in the trade market shortly after the draft.

You're right. Thanks for clearing that up for me. Plus you made me do research on it to see the latest lol:

https://dailyhive.com/van...t-seattle-expansion-draft

So it stands, add another quality D, like a Cernak, and they may go with the 4 and 4 format to include OJ and Myers.

He's a 3/4 at best but lets take your 4/5 as middle ground. The 5/6 you got Myers at can come at some point but not before the expansion draft. Plus I'm talking strictly Canucks on ratings. Add more RSD and we'll see. But Rathbone and OJ ,like I said who could get to 3/4, are LSD and won't be replacing him.
