Keep in mind i find this stuff slightly more confusing than figuring out how you can go back a day when you cross the international date line, but from everything I've read, if he retires in 2023 or later, the Habs are 100% off the hook.

There were also changes in the new CBA so that Nashville wouldn't have to take a $24M cap hit if he retired one year early - that $24M would now be spread out, as you can't take a recapture penalty in any year higher than what the original cap hit was.

Keep in mind i find this stuff slightly more confusing than figuring out how you can go back a day when you cross the international date line, but from everything I've read, if he retires in 2023 or later, the Habs are 100% off the hook.
