But, without being a part of 4 championships in Edmonton, what kind of player would Messier grow into? Probably no Cup in 94.

I think we beat the Islanders one of those years in the 80's if we have Messier

What if Messier doesn't turn into who he was without being on Edmonton in the beginning?

If you could go back in time and change ONE thing in #Rangers history, what would it be and why?

Probably go back to 1979 draft and get the Rangers to draft Mark Messier 34th overall instead of Ed Hospodar

Would have gave Roman Hamrlik a 5 year deal

Isn't 75% of Messier better than anybody we had in the 80s?

I would go back and make sure the Circus never came to town and the Rangers would actually be able to have playoff home games back in the day. I think we could have had 6-8 cups and then everyone would just shut the (frank) up.

While I'm at it, I would also even out the drafting or "sponsoring" of young players so that American teams were not hoodwinked for years. I would watch the Montreal and even Toronto dominance never take shape and the NHL would be better for it.

Rangers probably would have included Messier in the deal of Dione in 87

Still wonder where the Rangers would have been if they didnt trade Amonte. Granted Matteau had that memorable goal and was pretty good in the cup run, but look at Amonte's career.

Gartner too. It's crazy to think how all those guys we acquired sucked, but all had clutch moments for us throughout the playoffs. So is it we wouldn't have won the cup without those guys, or with Gartner and Amonte, we never would have needed those comebacks?

the common denominator with Gartner and Amonte is that Keenan disliked both of them very much

Yeah, maybe if they kept those guys we would have seen more than 1 cup in the mid 90's?

How could you dislike those guys? By all accounts both were stand up guys who were great leaders at some point

Keenan was crazy

there was the story of a road trip when they were on the plane and Kypreos and Healy were playing backgammon, Keenan walked back to them, didnt say a word and just smacked the game, pieces went everywhere and he went back to his seat, no reason at all

Can't really comment on Gartner, but I think Keenan is the only coach ever to think Amonte was soft. I wonder what Keenan woulda thought of Tony Granato? Of course his trade led to a much more important trade.......
