Is there an age limit on being a groupie? Two things for you. Ray Charles is always good and this one is even topical.
Also, have you ever seen the doc Frank Zappa, the Freak Out List? It’s the nerdiest movie of all time as the professor types talk about all the people on his list in Freak Out, Stravinsky, etc. Actually very insightful.
Here’s Ray

I was watching Zappa on the Mike Douglas show. He had some stop animation that was neat. |

Whoa. That is crazy poop.
It's not being a zamboni driver for the Leafs while playing goal for the Hurricanes but it's a distant second. |

He goes back way further than that: playing the bicylce on the Steve Allen Show. (1963)

Trumpism and Wokeism are not equivalent phenomena, but they both serve as secular religions for their disciples. They offer a binary logic of good and evil, a cultlike membership experience, apocalyptic or utopian visions, witch trials for the excommunication of the impure and the sense of personal meaning that comes while fighting a holy war.
In different ways, voters told the two parties that they’d like our politics to be about practical issues. If you want a religious war, go have it somewhere else.
The key is loosening the grip the culture war has had on our politics and governance. Let’s fight our moral difference with books, sermons, movies and marches, not with political coercion.
Well said!
Treating the other side of the equation as if they're anathema only serves to further the divide. We need to recognize that our political differences should not govern our ability to have open dialogue and relationships with those who don't agree with certain ideological tenets we may have.
We're all human. We all have our blindspots. The last thing we should do is brand the other side as secular heretics. |

Late night last night
If you voted for trump again, youre complicit - Fakepartofme
It must be so easy living in a world that can be so easily deconstructed into "good" vs. "evil". "Righteous" vs. "illiberal".
If only reality wasn't so (frank)ing reductive and binary.
But yes, "yawn", indeed. |

I generally agree Jones, but not this time.
I am generally right-leaning in my views. in 2016 I would have voted Trump because I hate everything the Clintons stand for.
I would have been wrong.
I cannot understand or respect someone who has seen Trump in office for the past 4 years and still voted for him. - Aetherial
I don't understand the Trump appeal either, Aeth. If I were American I would have voted for Hillary in 2016 and Biden in 2020.
Having said that, I think it's important to have dialogue between those who ideologically oppose us. The minute we decide to stop trying to understand those whose ideology differs from our own is the minute we're lost to our own echo chamber.
I'm not willing to brand 70M+ Americans as racist (frank)tards because they wanted 4 more years of Trumpist Republican rule.
I actually have a cousin who is a huge Trump supporter who I debate with regularly. Perhaps I'm overly optimistic, but I feel like I've made some progress with helping him see the other side -- with recognizing that he doesn't have to be 100% ideologically conservative or "Republican" (etc.) on every (frank)ing issue.
It can take years to get people to see the light. I'm not willing to give up or pretend that all 70M+ people who voted Red are all too far gone or despicable human beings for continued Trump support.
(frank) that partisan broadbrush bs. |

The great thing about people like Drexel and CC is that you always know where they stand.
Drexel: Democrats and Democrat voters bad.
CC: Republicans and Republican voters bad. - Leafs43

Do you think the 87 or 88% of black Americans that voted against Trump did so because they were “woke”? Do Muslim Americans care about the travel ban because it’s trending on Twitter? Politics is real. It affects people’s lives.
I agree that this isn’t religious warfare and the notion of secular heretics doesn’t make sense. Of course politics required dialogue and compromise. Every politician knows this.
Economic inequity is a problem all across the US including for Trump voters and many Democratic policies are designed to address it.
While I understand the reason for the pain I cannot condone voting for someone who you know will spend the next four years implementing racist policies just because you’re bummed out. If that’s what woke, I confess. |

I’m trying to have a conversation and this is the reaction of the king of open dialogue? If there are specific things you disagree with, call me out on it. This is a cop out. |
