They can drop 2 skaters if they needed (to get to 20) and that would get them another 2.15. Still doesn't seem to be enough unless Barzal does a 1 or 2 year deal.

My understanding is that Boychuk is still playing and so is Ladd. So I imagine trying hard to find a taker for one of them or maybe a Komarov or Leddy.

- The Law

How much do you have to sweeten to offload 2x$3m of Komarov with a flat cap? Likewise, Leddy is 2x$5.5. Czikas is a UFA after this year . . . but still, he's @ $3.3M. I'm sure you could find a taker in Jersey, LA, Nashville . . .someone with roster space and cap space if you sweetened it right.

And your name is Gary Bettman, and both of our signatures are on the CBA that states that we get 72%.

I've always argued that in league work stoppages, the players should just give the owners whatever they want, because it's a guarantee that the owners will still find a way to frank themselves.

- Atomic Wedgie

It says 72% if one game is played or 82 games are played. League negotiators made boo boos. Or to be precise, it doesn’t differentiate

Wedgie, some teams might not be able to afford the actual $s to do this.

Oh, I fully agree, but quit looking for a perfect solution.

I'm guessing the NHL will have to dip into rainy day funds to keep a few franchises afloat.

Although I would argue that for the vast majority of franchises, it's probably more a matter of "won't" than "can't."

Melnyk is probably tapped out, but most teams these days are owned by billionaires. It makes no sense to lose your franchise over $30M, when Seattle just paid $650M to enter. You take out a loan, keep your franchise afloat, and sell it when the economy rebounds.

To play devil's advocate here, all western thinkers of political philosophy prior to the 1950s were probably racist to one degree or another.

Immanuel Kant was a real pissant
Who was very rarely stable
Heidegger, Heidegger was a boozy beggar
Who could think you under a table.

They seem pretty reasonable to me.

My favourite bible story is Two Kings, where 42 kids make fun of a guy for being bald, so God releases two female bears who kill the kids.

No, I'm not kidding.

Oh I'll check that out!

I'm taking a course on Judaism right now. I don't know the Bible well outside of the greatest hits like Exodus and Noah and poop. I'm more of a Buddhist myself but comparative religious study is an interest of mine.

Maybe they’ll just be permissive on this and allow teams to keep players available.

I'm a pretty die-hard atheist, but there's no doubt that you need a good fundamental understanding of the bible, because everything from western literature to politics to history to art is heavily influenced by it.

Admittedly, most of my bible knowledge comes from Peanuts and Davey & Goliath...

Totally agreed.

My poorly executed point was that citing Voltaire in what was a shot at "gender" and republican views wouldn't have been where I went. He was a foreword thinking philosopher and sexual liberal in his time.

It'd be like saying eating healthy is a must. Then citing something cool and prolific from Colonel Sanders from the 40's.

If you were a real Christian you’d be way more supportive of Tunbledown in this, his moment of need.

Anybody check in on Drexel?

Lol yeaaahhhh Davey and Goliath. Yeah I think you can learn a lot from studying religion. I woud always have called myself and atheist, and Buddhism us nontheistic (at least my version), but I've come to feel spirituality is missing in our society.

As a Leafs fan I do pray sometimes. There are no atheists with a 4-1 lead.

They're heading for DC to help trump pack his poop out of the white house and move it to Moscow.

Total guesswork but I expect the lessor-thans will get help from the greater-thans in some kind of league plan. It's all about looking forward to bigger growth.

Together they'll cut the fat, minimize expenses, cater to the poor teams, cut deals with the sponsors and TV people and put something together.

Ya, I'd be guessing. In a normal year they'd have probably figured out the cost and paid the price by now. And precedent would seem to be a high pick or a good prospect. But this offseason - does any team take on any extra $$ at any price? I think so but who knows.

For now I imagine they feel out the market/interest and wait to hear what the league is doing.

Tampa too.

I was at the grocery store and the cashier asked if it's ok if she puts the cheese and meat in the same bag. I thought that was nice.

The look my 14 yr old gave me when I told him about waiting 6 hours to eat meat after dairy.

Jewish culture just makes me smile.

I need to go watch some Mel Brooks right now.
