In hindsight I find it weird people refer to Lindros being whiny about his head injuries. He ended up being completely right. - hereticpride
It was awful. I feel culpable being pissed about it. He should have never came back in the 2000 season. |

Makes you wonder how many times Lindros played when he was in a complete fog. |

Lindros was ruined by the rules back then.
All things being equal, and you put a 23 year old Lindros and Forsberg in the league now? I don't think Forsberg can do what Lindros was capable of.
I'm am NOT saying Peter was bad in any way, but Lindros was a freak.
He could honestly be a positionless player on the ice.
Put him anywhere with that shot, speed, size and IQ.
Edit: before you say Forsberg played in the same period? There were rules for Lindros, then everyone else. Just like Shaq, you could have called a penalty on the opposition almost every time he was out there. - DrMidnite
#88 today would see a lot of stuff like he faced in the 97 Finals. LOD was stymied by clockwork defensive support and stick checks. Size doesn't confer the same kind of advantages that it used to when play was a lot more 1v1 and you could physically impede and interfere in the ozone. |

Not that there is a big difference but #21 was not better than #88 here, sorry. - MJL
Talking overall career-wise. Foppa was great in so many ways... one of the most physical, skilled, intelligent and dominant competitors of all time.

No, the lack of obstruction rules just exacerbated the 'scheme' to stop him, which was to interfere in any way possible.
Clutching/holding/interfering was ok back then, now it is not. You make it sound like clockwork defense was performed by a team of all-stars. Gretzky & Lemieux has their rules because they were 'gentlemen' Lindros was a brash, dominant, physical and skillful prodigy.
He was just born 20 years too early. |

And just FYI to the Forsberg faction.
That CO team was LOADED. And he may not have even been the best player on their title team.
And they won 1 with him.
EDIT my mistake, it was 2 chips. |

Both at their peak were fantastic players. It's a matter of personal judgement who was better. |

Yes to intelligence, especially to how good a reader of the game he was. In my opinion, the best player I have seen in the past 25 years in orange and black. |

Hey, Wayne Stephenson can say that he was in goal when they beat the Soviet Red Team and carried the main share of the goal tending during the 75-76 season - another Cup run. Of course he isn't as flashy as a bunch of other names on that list, but it is fun being nostalgic. |

Lindros would ride roughshod over this league today. He would draw hooking and slashing penalties that dwarf the (un)intentional walk numbers Barry Bonds got in his juicing heyday |

Yep. People forget his physical presence. Dude was tall, but not necessarily the tallest, but just thick, and fast, and talented.
Have not seen anyone like him since. Maybe never will

Flyer fan since Broadstreet Bullies all the way through, and I still think Peter Forsberg belongs with Clarke and Lindros in the top centers options (and is their equal). Certainly belongs in the options way above Richards and (hilariously) Carter.

Which player playing now is the closest in style to Lindros?
For me, Getzlaf (size, physicality, skating, though less skill I would say) and Malkin (size, skill, hands, though not the key trait of physicality of course) come to mind.

One of them is a 3-time league MVP and a 2-time Stanley Cup champion (of which he was captain), the other while great, isn’t. - RealBige
That is true, but that early to mid 79a flyers hockey team was stacked so cumulatively it was a group effort. We ran into a red wings dynasty the year we got so close.
Regardless, lindros was dominant and would still be dominant in the league today if he wa young again. Dude was a hoss |

Rioters are no more representative of Joe's supporters than the mouth-breathing Proud Boys are of Trump.
Are you comfortable with that comparison?
Right, I didnt think so.

Man that’s tough to say. No one just dominates that way anymore. Thornton in his prime maybe played a bit similar. I really can’t think of anyone current.
Eric Staal in his prime comes to mind as well. |
