The girlfriend sent my boy to school dressed up like he there was 2 meters of snow outside.
It's 2 degrees outside with wind and just a little bit of snow.
- Scabeh
I don't blame her. I was outside yesterday close to sundown extending one of my downspouts, it was 4 degrees outside but I swear it felt like -10. Hands felt like they were going to fall off while wearing construction gloves. |

TIL: the Miami Dolphins' stadium was designed so that the visiting team roasts on the sideline, while the home team is in the shade.
Yesterday it was 140 degrees on the Rams' sideline, while it was 80 degrees for the Dolphins. |

He might not be the last samurai, but he's a yank that becomes the saviour of Japanese civilization
Also, you might need a mental reprioritization if peoples' interpretations of a Tom Cruise movie is high on your list of gripes.

He's not the saviour of Japanese civilization. Did you watch the movie? Or better yet know the actual historical figure his character is based on?
It's the Meiji Restoration where the Japanese Emperor finally got control of their government and army for the first time since the Shogunate and used the American military advisors to Westernize their culture and army.
It's a great film and Ken Watanabe plays one of the most tragic figures in Japanese history extremely well. |

I saw it in the theaters, so it's been awhile, though my understanding of it is that the movie greatly overstates the role of the united states in general |

Not sure how Matthew Perry opening them to modern Western military equipment and personally taking on a role to train the Imperial Army in Western military operations which transformed Japan from a backwater Feudal society to what would become the Colonial power of note in the East and the country that became the first non-European power to defeat a colonial European power (Russia) in an outright war in the 1800's. is "greatly overstated." |
