Im not sure why they did this. Dont they want Woll or Scott to get any playing time and development in the AHL? - Archaic
This is the "why" from the article (my initial reaction was WTF also but after reading this it makes sense):
The Leafs now have six goaltenders under contract, but for the expansion draft prospects Ian Scott and Joseph Woll are exempt and Frederik Andersen and Aaron Dell are unrestricted free agents. Had the Leafs not re-signed Hutchinson, they would have been forced to expose Campbell to Seattle, now they can protect Campbell and expose Hutchinson.
Also perhaps the fact Hutchinson is from Barrie they figured if he doesn't get taken by Seattle he would be more than OK playing in Toronto with the Marlies.

Financial luxuries.
Not many teams are handing guaranteed NHL-level incomes to AHLers.

Coming from you?
Or legit information? Because you have been way wrong in the past with this sort of stuff
Because I haven’t heard much info on not playing, and they have a target date. - Santo_44
But to answer your question, when the AHL announced their "target date" there was widespread disbelief across hockey media.
The challenges remain:
- closed border (yes, Calgary may offer a glimmer of hope)
- no fans means no revenues
- a little over a third of the AHL teams are NOT owned by their NHL affiliates - they won't have the financial reserves to run a season.
Do I have any "legit information?"
Nobody does.
I do have a healthy skepticism, based upon facts and probabilities.

There’s certainly not going to be a season with that kind of negative attitude.
