If he caught the damn ball i think people would have felt a lot better about the victory. If people want to call the stripped ball lucky for the Bills, that play was equally unlucky. Thats football

Im not the one who said going from team to team = being bad. You did
- sbroads24

I did not say he was bad, he is who he is, a bottom 6 forward. Would I have taken him over Girgs, you bet but Im not heart broken that they did not sign him.

I love what KA has done, was not happy about draft day but Staal and Hall address 2 glaring needs. Now the rest of the team just needs to be average and we should be competing for a playoff spot.

But will they be average?
I think they will be better than last season, but still on the outside looking in...in a normal 82 game/ 16 team playoff scenario.

Hopefully they will be fun to watch rather than the snoozefest the last 3 or 4 years have been.

Could not agree more.. It will be difficult for the Sabres to make the playoffs but being in the conversation after December would be nice.

I've been trying to be silent. Nobody likes a Debbie Downer. But aren't we out of the playoff convo right now?

We got Hall and Staal. We got worse defensively losing Pilut, we got worse in the bottom 6 as we traded out a couple decent players (Larry/Kahun) for replacement level ones (Reider/Eakin) and our goaltending didn't change. I was of the mind that this year would be more fun to watch with Hall-Eichel together, but thought it was obvious this is not a playoff team or close to it still.

Is that DD talk? I thought we were sold on the idea this was another cast off season tbh.

Oh I think we're well positioned for that. If the season starts in February we'll probably even be playing Meaningful Games In March™️

49ers continue to get bit by the injury bug. I had us losing that one, but now think it will be a W.

If we can beat Seattle this weekend, and as a 2.5 pt underdog we certainly have a chance to do that, 12 or 13 wins is likely. Steelers the one game that could give us trouble, but being at home will give us a puncher’s chance.

Home field throughout not out of the realm for this team if Beane can shore up the D tomorrow with a key trade or two.

There’s no question Kahun provides more offensive upside than role players such as Girgensons and Rieder. However, Krueger’s philosophy of building a roster does not involve wanting the best players. The 61-year-old has explained previously that he’s searching for the right mix and prefers balancing his rosters with elite scorers and defensively responsible forwards.

“My favorite team metaphor is an orchestra playing some really deep multilevel classical music and the imagination you need to have is each hockey player being one of those instruments,” Krueger said to The Buffalo News in May. “The first violinist will be much more present than the kettle drummer and it’s also getting guys to be proud of the instrument they’re playing on our team and understanding the one will have the bigger presence than the other. Explaining to them the role they have and why they have the role of making each and every moment for the instrument you play important.

“I think that’s important when you build a team that you have the right makeup. When I was in Switzerland I never took top 12 goal scorers with the national team. There was always a healthy mix of people accepting roles and responsibilities. You need that in a good hockey team.”

Yep agreed... When he did that I said that's going to cost us the game. Luckily it didn't

This was exactly the same take expressed last July...about 3 weeks in after the vast majority of trades and UFa signings. While it is Nov now, on the relative offseason calendar it us like the 3rd or 4th week in July of a normal year.

Hopefully, this year is much different. We shall see.

- IonSabres

Sure... but :
1- we have a new GM,
2- and an assumed mandate from Eichel that we have to win or else,
3- and it’s a year where MANY teams have to make moves bc of the Cap,
4- and UFAs are settling for lower contracts than usual

All that tells me moves are more likely
Now i can’t say for sure that we will make more moves, but it seems reasonable

And there’s just no sense in getting upset now when there’s still months to do so

39 games

there is a reason thompson had a first round draft grade and olofsson didn't

kid has talent

- homiedclown

I’m sure i don’t need to list all the first rounders we’ve chosen who haven’t even come close to 60pts in a season

After what I’ve seen from Tage,
I just doubt he has that upside in the NHL
There’s been plenty of guys who play well in the AHL but can’t do it up here

Hope you’re right though!

we are not comparing Kahun to Sadd, Hall & Domi are we? Or are we just pulling those names out to fit a narrative?

[quote=Pegullaville]Taylor Hall is playing on his third team in the last year.

Yeah but like the Bruce Smith arguments from a few pages back and not winning championships. The 900+ grand nomad winger is no Hart Trophy, 1st overall pick talent.

Let the nomad winger go. It will be good for you.

Kahun 4 teams in 3 years

I got Taylor hall at 4 teams in 12 years?
3 recently

110 yards ect .......

- Boss34

I think it’s pretty ironic you keep throwing around the Canadian insults when really Buffalo is pretty much an extension of Southern Ontario for the most part.

Kevyn Adams even when as far to pitch to Taylor Hall that the fan base resembles a Canadian Market in the Embedded series.

Culturally speaking we are very much alike.

The argument against Kahun was that he is playing on multiple teams lately, well so has Hall.

Case closed. I guess we can make the field 200 yards though if you’re going to keep moving the goal posts.

The Sabres get a nice shiny toy for once in Hall but it has to be dulled up because a few can't take overpaying and keeping Dominik Kahum when some team is coming close to playing him the NHL min because A.) He wants to play with his compatriots; B) The Penguins and Sabres said screw that there is no way we are taking that guy to arbitration and overpaying him; and C) Because the Sabres had others holes to fill in their roster make it a better team. But keep dulling up the Hart TRophy winner they got to try to make your weak case.

We enjoy the same crappy weather, love our sports teams and are passionate about them.

Obviously the federal and provincial laws that we live and abide by are different due to the fact we are divided by that border line but culturally speaking there are many similarities.

Or do you think Buffalonians compare more favourably to the Southern States ? I wouldn’t say so but hey that’s my opinion and I stand by it.

When have I ever “dulled” up the signing of Hall ?

I even went as far to say that I don’t think it’s out of the question that both could potentially finish top 5 in scoring.

It’s funny because you Bills fans complain about your defence week in and week out. Yet when some of the posters question the replacements in the bottom 6 and lack of goaltending upgrade we get shunned for our criticisms that we have taken a step back defensively ?

Or is it because we have to wait and see it with our own eyes before we complain about it ?

The Sabres have gotten much better offensively this offseason while taking a step back defensively.

I’ll admit I was wrong if Kreuger can do what nobody else has done in the last 4 years and make Eakin a successful defensive forward.

We overpaid Eakin, Girgensons, and Thompson (seeing what Kahun got and what Joey Anderson got in Toronto as a comparable).

We have still yet to upgrade in goal unless they are putting all of their chips on the table hoping Ullmark continues to improve (which is possible but not ideal).

We also have 5 RHD men that could realistically play in the lineup with only 3 spots and no move has been made to improve the defence corps on the left side unless you’re banking on Matt Irwin.
