24 total Rochester games played the past 2 seasons, with 12 goals and 9 assists for 21 points.

He also played 30 games for the St. Louis AHL affiliate and had 8 goals and 10 assists for 18 points.

That's 54 total AHL games with 20 total goals and 21 total assists for 41 total points.

Is it possible he's a strong AHL player who cannot translate his game to the NHL due to the lack of time and space he needs to get his shot off with at least some degree of accuracy?

Thankfully the Sabres don't have to play him in the top 6 and count on him producing. In years past it feels like he'd be automatically slotted in top 6 due to weak forwards

Wouldn't it also seem like a player with a long track record of scoring like Mike Hoffman would also be getting more attention?

There are a number of players still available that feels like under normal conditions would already have been signed.

I am all ears as to the reason or reasons why Kahun is on his 4th team already.

Are we attempting to imply he's a malcontent of some kind, or are we leaning towards GM incompetence from multiple teams (Chicago due to cap issues, and Rutherford due to being Rutherford)?

- kingcong39

there's no comparison with hoffman as they're on different levels, which includes last season's cap-hit ($925k for kahun, $5.2 for hoffman)...

as for your last comment, i'm not implying anything like "malcontent"...just stating simple facts: four teams in two seasons, 30 teams passing him over this off season, kahun signing for 1/3 of what he and his agent expected...

Hey Flacco can you post Laaksonen's development curve.. and does it include D+4
- TheSabresTaco

I don’t pay for the patreon so anything that I post or have posted would come straight from Twitter from the people themselves that share the charts or from other people who have paid for their services.

Laaksonen has been very good though this year to start of the Liiga year.

I liked him in his short stint with the Sabres. And i have no reason to doubt those who tout his analytics. However, there's a reason he's on his fourth team to start his third NHL season. And there's also a reason why he signed for 1/3 less than he and his agent were expecting at the beginning of this off season. It would seem as if a player like Kahun, who's scoring about 0.5 points/game almost exclusively at even strength, would have gotten more attention at a higher salary by more than just Edmonton and Buffalo.

Or there isn’t. And it’s just coincidence

Agreed that there is not some commonality mark against Kahun as to why he has been on multiple different teams.

Yes, very possible IMO.
He needed to
a) get stronger, which apparently he did
b) use his size to his advantage and stop play like Bambi

At 6'6" 220 before the pandemic, and having worked out aggressively according to reports, he is positioned well to be an absolute beast of a true power forward...dominate the boards to win puck battles, go to the net like a man possessed, control the net front area becoming a complete disaster for the opposing Dmen to handle.

The days of the dipsie-doodle are over.

I'll believe it when I see it. Until then, a fine AHLer

What twam wouldn't want a value contract for a player like Kahun?

They offered Kahun $1.4M as a take or leave it along with they were not going to qualify him.

The Sabres decided to go in a different direction with the combination of signing Tage to the $1.4M per deal and getting Hall to sign.

I think it comes down to teams, specifically management, still struggling with valuing what a quality 3rd line player looks like.

Many believe they have be difficult to play against (i.e. be overtly physical) and hit a lot, which is why a player like Kahun falls through the cracks, as he's not obviously difficult to play against because he's not physical.

His speed causes turnovers and he provides offense without needing ideal circumstances.

That to me is an ideal 3rd line player, along with a player that can do the above and be physical, but forwards who are speedy, physical, and provide offense without needing to be in ideal situations are almost always at least 2nd line players.

You rarely get that kind of total package with a 3rd line player.

Noted. Yeah, I just wanted to see his curve, and what I'm estimating it going in reverse from last year. Why I don't totally trust those curves with young players.

IMO they are another 1 and done playoff team.
- ImThatGuy

Yes. As of right now, you're 100% correct. They need to do .... something. Somehow obtain some stud player(s) for the D. This is the time...this is our window. Make it happen, Beane.

I liked Kahun, planned on them re-signing him and was a bit disappointed they didn't. That said, only two teams--Buffalo and Edmonton-- are said to have pursued Kahun. And that includes Stevie Y in Detroit who knows a thing or two about value contracts

But herbert has been good for 5 games, why not put him in the top 5 qbs in the game today?

Oh, superbowls and winning ......

But, watson...... and matt Stafford had been dealt a "bad hand"

I'm all about hope. I have no problem with that, but I am also in no way expecting him to be a 30 goal 60 point player this year either.

If he had a 15 goal 20 assist season, that would be a massive improvement.

If he plays LW with Draisaitl and Yamomoto...he could have a very, very nice season.
I liked the kid, I 'll be interested to see how he does.

He was so good that he dominated the 3 games of the 27 that he didn't even play in?

I said several times that I based my opinion on what I’ve seen during this season.

Not based on career numbers and past performance.

For this year ?

Wilson
Mahomes
Rodgers
Watson
Herbert.

Brady, Murray, Tannehill, and Allen all make good cases for top 5 as well though.

I think your boy Josh has proven he should be in the top 10 but idk about top 5.

- Pegullaville

Mahomes
Russ
Rodgers

Top 5 for sure. I think alot of people would have lamar and maybe joe burrows?

Although now we're changing the "overall" to "current".

Kinda.
Really discussing if it makes sense to sign an 18 pt 4th liner for 3 x $2.2m resulting in about $800k overpayment annually resulting from a knee jerk reaction to the opening of FA...
Coupled with a 31 pt middle 6 player signing elsewhere for mid $900k.
If you think about it, Sabres could have had both for only $150 more than Girgs.

Moving on...

Guessing again, repeating the same as fact, then moving on........ 🛎🛎🛎

Kahun is a borderline nhl player. That is the answer.
He is a dime a dozen guy.

What did you expect for sheary and erod?
