The bold is incorrect as he's been above average defensively so far in his NHL career.

Corsi metrics mean little to me
And I’m going off the games i saw him play with Buffalo

Now that I’ve read your scouting report on Kahun I believe crazy isn’t a bad thing.

I'm going off the entirety of his 138 NHL games played and way more than Corsi.

So, today we are arguing whether we made a mistake not signing a guy that is making less than a million in an NHL outpost when every other team could have signed him and didn't??

Gotcha.

some of us are trying to move on, some won't. Not sure if you ever had the pleasure of reading about the Erik Haula chronicles, but people don't let poop go here.

I liked him in his short stint with the Sabres. And i have no reason to doubt those who tout his analytics. However, there's a reason he's on his fourth team to start his third NHL season. And there's also a reason why he signed for 1/3 less than he and his agent were expecting at the beginning of this off season. It would seem as if a player like Kahun, who's scoring about 0.5 points/game almost exclusively at even strength, would have gotten more attention at a higher salary by more than just Edmonton and Buffalo.

Do we know if the Sabres original offer was higher than $975k? Based on the comments from the agent, it seems like the Sabres may have rescinded the offer ("the Sabres decided to go in a different direction" or whatever he exactly said)

I’d like to offer Luke Kuechly 1,489 internet points to play MLB and trade Tremaine Edmunds for about anything

I am hopeful that he is still playing hurt. He's been a liability.

They offered Kahun $1.4M as a take or leave it along with they were not going to qualify him.

The Sabres decided to go in a different direction with the combination of signing Tage to the $1.4M per deal and getting Hall to sign.

Wouldn't it also seem like a player with a long track record of scoring like Mike Hoffman would also be getting more attention?

There are a number of players still available that feels like under normal conditions would already have been signed.

I am all ears as to the reason or reasons why Kahun is on his 4th team already.

Are we attempting to imply he's a malcontent of some kind, or are we leaning towards GM incompetence from multiple teams (Chicago due to cap issues, and Rutherford due to being Rutherford)?

We'll see if they got giving Tage $1.4M right.

Tage has a lot left to do to prove he is worth that.

seems obvious they wanted to fix the pk with the bottom 6

when we extended girgens, got eatkin and rieder, there was no room for kahun

All we can do is speculate, unfortunately. But clearly the league does not value him as much as the analytics community does.

Sure. Still a low risk contract for a guy who definitely has a higher ceiling. I'm excited to see his progression from Rochester continue here.

Sure, he has a higher ceiling, but his chances of hitting are what exactly?

Let's say 72%

And regardless of that, the difference between the two players providing occasional offense on the third line is insignificant.

The league has a long history of not valuing a player that can drive and produce offense in a 3rd line role without needing power play time or great players to play with, when said player is not obviously physical or the cliché tough to play against.

As Homie correctly said, the Sabres want to have a 3rd line that is more old school and traditional, hence them going with Rieder and Eakin, along with likely Thompson.

They are going all in on the top 2 lines handling all the offense while the bottom 2 play physical and handle all the defensive responsibilities.

I am dubious on that working when the defensive ability of three of the bottom 6 (Eakin, Thompson, Lazar) is very much in doubt.

I would rather have gone all offense attacking with the top 3 lines and had Olofsson and Kahun flank Eakin, that way Eakin had the best chance of producing actual points.

That's preference more than anything else.

Based on what? Your gut feeling?

The numbers for each in their NHL careers to date are starkly clear regarding who provides offense in a lesser role.
