But he kills penalties and had 3 SHG in the playoffs, something the Sabres were last at last year.

I'll take Hall, not qualifying Kahun who would have got much more in arbitration, hope Rieder improves the PK and could care less about Kahun.

- GilPerreault11

Not a bad way to look at it

Would be nice to have Kahun too,
but losing him is hardly the end of the world that some made it out to be

Mitts could (should?) hopefully make ppl forget all about Kahun if he’s finally got his sh!t together

True
Allen just doesn’t get the benefit of the doubt that Brees does

Allen hasn’t been “consistently” elite yet
Just look at the first 4 games vs the last 4

He’s been better, which is good
He’s just not there yet, and that’s ok

- jdfitz77

I'm not saying he's elite yet. I just can't stand when people pick a missed pass or two as reasons why he sucks when literally every QB misses passes.

Sure they watched Cody Eakin be awful, Tobias Reider, did he even play?

Zemgus Girgensons was huge in the playoffs.

Having sandpaper means jack poop if you don’t have a talented top 8-9

We've been terrible and terribly soft for years.

Why not try something a little different? It's a copy cat league and Tampa won with maroon, Coleman, goodrow, bogo, Luke shenn, and kuchorov is a physical superstar.
Hedman is a physical 6/6 beast.

Again, datguy ..... watching the playoffs would really help you understand the Sabres moves. It's very simple.

I'm not talking face punching goons, but solid defensively responsible ( tough to play against offensively) PK tough , man for man aggressive forechecking, grinding team.

We have the skill to score goals now finally.
Hall- eichel- olloffson
Skinner - stahl - reinhart

Your acting like goons are gonna be taking stupid penalties and paying top minutes.

Girgs had 10 penalty minutes total last year.

Nothing done about the goaltending

Nothing done about having 5 RD and 1 good LD

This team might be decent, and it will be because Dahlin is a superstar, Cozens is legit right off the bat, and Hall returns to form from 2 years ago.

This team could also be very bad if

Staal looks really old

Coach plays Risto 20+ minutes a night

Goaltending is exactly the same

Hall is 2019/20 Hall

And YOU could choose to be HOPEFUL,
or just miserably complain every day

The season doesn’t start for MONTHS

Some of those above issues that haven’t been addressed yet could still be addressed,
RIGHT?!
Or does camp start next week?

That’s fair,
but your comment earlier probably just perpetuates that

Also... it’s social media dude
Ppl constantly overreact & fly off the handle,

There's so many free agents available. teams are still trying to put together a roster. Trades will happen accordingly.

I’m not saying it’ll be easy for us,
as we are feeling a bit of a cap crunch too

But it’s still possible for us to make another move or 2

I'm saying Stafford doesn't have even close to those numbers if the Lions were a good team.
- Wetbandit1

The Lions would have been a good team if they had anything other then Stafford.

Like Jesus they had a streak that basically lasted almost 3 seasons where they did not have a single running back rush for 100 + yards at one point.

Can you name another receiver Detroit had apart from Calvin Johnson apart from Kenny Golliday recently whom can’t seem to stay healthy ?

There are much worse QB’s in the league then Matthew Stafford that have had regular season and playoff success.

What’s Jimmy Goroppolo’s numbers as a starter ? Calling the guy average might be a stretch at this point and he played in a Super Bowl last year.

Crags scored a bunch of internet points a few weeks ago. He hit the Josh Allen "thing" on the head. It's strange but, people want to be right about him. Every play gives more validity to their arguement.

Winning means everything unless the qb overthrows someone for more points in a win?

Golden Tate was pretty damn good for them. Averaged over 1,000 yards per season in 4 years with them including a 99 catch 1,300 yard year

Definitely, I think the Sabres are "more set" than other teams. 4-6 new faces at forward ( mitts, tage, cozens)

D was reshaped by jbotts . Could use a tune up.

Need a goalie

On Edmonton radio reports were they offered Kahun something like 1.2-1.5 mil at the start of free agency. He obviously misread the market. Should have taken whatever the Sabres offered him at the beginning.

Sure, he took the mantle from Megatron and held up the role as the #1 WR in a pass happy offence.

Golden Tate was pretty good in Seattle as well.

Not a typical #1 wide out but he did the job and did it well.

To say that the Lions were held back by Stafford and were not good because of Stafford though is wrong.

The Lions have been a joke because they have had terrible coaching, management, and were never able to put a good defence on the field nor give Stafford any semblance of a consistent running game.

What started the Stafford debate?

He’s been a “good” not “great” QB

And the Lions have been a mess bc of their mgmt
Doing things like drafting a WR in the top10 3yrs in a row & having them ALL be busts
Well.... Roy Williams has a couple decent years if i remember right, but not top10 pick worthy

It’s not his fault the Lions have sucked,
even if he did collect some “garbage time” stats

So....are we going to like this guy? Does he play LW or RW?

All wing positions are pretty well penciled in here, is he a bottom 6 guy that can move up when injuries occur ? I can’t see him playing with Draisaitl but maybe McDavid? Can he skate?

Idk if it was said that Stafford holds the Lions back. What I saw only said that he racks up most of his passing yards in garbage time because Detroit is often down big.

He’s solid.

The only people here who aren’t at least a little annoyed we didn’t re-sign him are the people who stick up for everything this sad franchise does

He’s a bargain at a mil

Basically a dime a dozen borderline nhl/ahl guy.

Can play up in the line up with some points.

Small , easy to handle. Basically gonna be a 30 point afterthought.

Under a million, cant go wrong signing.

And I’m sure Stafford would give up some of that yardage if it meant winning more games.

Stafford would be considered elite if he played anywhere other than Detroit.

He got dealt a bad hand.

Ideally bottom 6, decent offensively, decent skater, not great defensively

He was barely here for a cup of coffee though,
so tough to say

Rieder has scored 1 shorthanded goal the past 3 regular seasons combined.

What he did in the playoffs sure seems like an anomaly when compared to his past 3 regular seasons.

The bold is incorrect as he's been above average defensively so far in his NHL career.
