Justin Herbert and Deshaun Watson are two of the top 5 QB’s in the NFL yet are a combined 3-11.

However wins are a “QB” stat.

Am I doing this right ?

- Pegullaville

Yep, I've always said defense doesn't matter at all.

And Watson and Stafford are both garbage time QBs. Herbert I'm setting aside, because Minshew looked like the second coming for a bit last year too.

Watson's three biggest games yardage wise are 1-2 with the opposition scoring 100 points.

Stafford I'll expand a bit more because he's played for so long, so I'll go 6 games because I'm too lazy to do more, the Lions are 2-4 and the opposition scored 197 for 32.8 points per game, very close to Watson's 33.3.

Allen's 3 biggest games have the Bills at 3-0 with the opposition scoring 77 points, the Bills allowed over a TD less.

If someone wants to do a deeper dive, be my guest, but Stafford especially is a garbage time/shootout QB that had one of the GOATs at WR to throw to.

Just putting up gaudy stats means nothing. Tom Brady is 147 years old and his arm is shot and he's still destroying teams.

Can we wait until after the deadline for such drastic predictions. Just cause they aren't blowing teams out they are one and done. Its only half way through the season, the defense can regain its form.
- Carubba-Kaleta

They can, but will they? There's certainly precedent; the Chiefs defense was atrocious for most of the year last year, but had a rip roaring end to the season where they ended up 8th, IIRC.

Reider
Girgs
Eakin

For a combined 6 million or
Kahun for Under a mil.

Yea I think I know what I’m doing.

- ImThatGuy

Kahun would have gotten 2 1/2 to 3 times as much in arbitration. They let him go and he sat there until taking a desperation contract. It was his choice after the Sabres balked at a potential payout that much above what he signed for

Watch a football game outside of the Bills games at 1 and you’ll see what I’m talking about.
- Pegullaville

I have 2 TVs going kiddo. Redzone and Bill's game.

200 yards of football in my livingroom , not 110 yards of Canadian football.

Who are the other 3 top "5"?

Drew lock looked great today. Finally cut him this week. 🙉

It's like hockey goalies. Some guys just find ways to win. Ryan Miller is a perfect example, aside from one amazing year he had fairly pedestrian numbers, but he won a ton of games, made even more big saves. You could pretty much pencil him in for ~35 wins a year, and the Sabres weren't great for his entire tenure either.

Stafford has taken a step back this year. He’s missing guys who are open and does not look the same QB of years past.

The Texans haven’t fielded a defence in over 3 years and decided to trade Hopkins and replace Hyde with a broken down David Johnson and Watson is still putting up top 5 QB numbers.

Justin Herbert very well may be a flash in the pan but it’s tough to find 5 better QB’s who have had a better 5 game stretch that he’s had these last 5 weeks.

Yet the Chargers and Texans blow.

Whereas Allen did pretty much nothing apart from a 41 yard completion to Diggs, handed off the ball to the tune of 190 yards and won today.

But i thought it was bad asset management not sending him to arbitration ? Ka-boo-hoo-hun.

Sabres clearly want a certain mix of skill and physical play. Kahun was paid accordingly. Just another nhl journeyman.

Can I have both Hall and Kahun.

Or is there a limit on how much quality offense the Sabres can have.

- ImThatGuy

Yeah what do they have to do with each other?

I'm not talking about Stafford this year. He once threw for 4967 yards and the team finished 4-12. He's thrown for 4500+ 3 times and the combined record is 21-27. That's dogpoop. It's easy to rack up yards and TDs when you're always down by 3 TDs. His QBR(which takes into account game state) was barely above average for most of his career. Drew Brees' lowest QBR(since its inception) on the other hand is higher than 8 of Stafford's 12 years in the league.

If it wasn’t for Ralph Krueger, this teams offseason would’ve been one of the worst, and would’ve almost guaranteed an Eichel trade demand.

Kevyn Adyms is bad

You can fantasize about anything you want but when the Sabres take a penalty I don't want the dyke open again.
- GilPerreault11

So then why sign Girgensons.

And then why sign Eakin who is, well awful at everything he does.

But congrats on those guys, I guess?

But they got guys they played hard nosed hockey and try hard.

Who cares if they constantly get their faces caved in while on the ice and let other teams score goals more than not.

They try their little hearts out, and damnit that’s all that matters.

I laughed at it . 😉

Power slave deserves %100 of the creative credit.

The whole kahun situation has been pretty funny in general. Guy plays 6 games in the blue and gold and some here wanted to hang his Jersey from the rafters.

Give him 3.5 , bad asset management, even the "he turned down 2 million a year" non factual rumor.

He's a borderline nhl player, on his 4th team in 3 years.
Traded for erod and sheary. What are you really expecting?

And apart from Megatron, Stafford has never had a running game or any other meaningful pass catchers. The Lions have been a team without an identity for as long as I can remember.

Blaming Matthew Stafford for the Lions futility is like blaming Eichel for the Sabres futility.

I’ve had to watch a majority of the Lions games over the years as my father is a Lions fan.

The coaching staffs, the defences, the running backs, and other targets he’s had at his disposal were a joke.

The Lions wasted Barry Sanders, Calvin Johnson, and Stafford (to a lesser extent compared to the aforementioned)

Again datguy, you didn't watch the nhl playoffs.

It would explain the need for strong tough resilient players over just skilled small softies.

But, keep asking the same question of how/why we are acquiring sandpaper guys. Obviously Ralph and gmka watched the playoffs.

Nothing done about the goaltending

Nothing done about having 5 RD and 1 good LD

This team might be decent, and it will be because Dahlin is a superstar, Cozens is legit right off the bat, and Hall returns to form from 2 years ago.

This team could also be very bad if

Staal looks really old

Coach plays Risto 20+ minutes a night

Goaltending is exactly the same

Hall is 2019/20 Hall

Sure they watched Cody Eakin be awful, Tobias Reider, did he even play?

Zemgus Girgensons was huge in the playoffs.

Having sandpaper means jack poop if you don’t have a talented top 8-9

We have a talented top 6.

Eakin is a seriously bad 3C though. Lazar is a bad 4C

Hopefully Cozens transitions sooner than later

See, you fundamentally misunderstand my point. My point is that if even arguably the most accurate passer in history can miss a wide open 6'5" Jared Cook, any QB is going to miss on some throws, and just because they do does not mean they suck or are "not ready".
- Wetbandit1

True
Allen just doesn’t get the benefit of the doubt that Brees does

Allen hasn’t been “consistently” elite yet
Just look at the first 4 games vs the last 4

He’s been better, which is good
He’s just not there yet, and that’s ok

I'm saying Stafford doesn't have even close to those numbers if the Lions were a good team.
