another draft note I hadnt realized was that Justin Barron, RHD who went to Colorado 25th overall, is Morgan Barron's younger brother
he's another kid that went into last season very highly regarded, top 10 potential but had a dreadful season, meanwhile our pick at 19th, Braden Schneider had a fantastic season

He's a villain. He's talented but has been dangerous out there on the ice. The only people who like him should be Caps fans - picklerick
Stop. That ridiculous. He plays on the line, crosses it sometimes, but so many people now can't handle an actual clean big hit, they female dog and moan about everything he does.

for the most part, I agree with that, but this one bothered me, mostly because it was in a pre-season game, just ridiculously unnecessary

not only did Arizona renounce the draft pick, but now he's been kicked off his college team

Mitchell Miller no longer a part of University of North Dakota hockey team - jimbro83
Still like this really disappoints me. I agree totally that he should face consequences for his actions. However, no one can convince me that the Yotes or North Dakota knew nothing about what had transpired, it just all looks like shameless PR actions. At the very least, it's a huge example of both entities sticking their fingers in their ears and screaming.
I'm guessing this player's next stop if he wants to continue playing hockey is Europe or Russia. I just hope he can grow from the situation.

I think it's pretty ridiculous that all of a sudden now the thing he did was so bad he can't play college hockey now
they must have reviewed his whole story before accepting him into the school in the first place right? and it was ok then?

Yup, and he should be called out on that crap. He has definitely over stepped but so have lots of players.
Wilson is just so big and strong and fast and looks for an opportunity to hit, he destroys people. He is like Scott Stevens as a forward. - mdw7413
And I think you'll find plenty of people on this board that will hate Stevens to this day for the same reasons.
My problem with Stevens and Wilson is that they are always looking for the kill shot even when it really isn't necessary. They really aren't breaking the rules per say, but they are exacting an unnecessary amount of force to players, especially in a sport that's struggling with it's own concussion/CTE issues.
We keep hearing the narrative from traditionalists about how hockey is a game founded on respect between the players. To me creaming a guy for no good reason whether it's legal or not sort of violates this.

Which is complete nostalgic bullshit. Go look at some of the hits from years ago and other crap players did. The league is way more cleaner now then it ever has been.

You're not wrong.
I have always loved the big hits --- the timing involved to crush a guy and knock him off his skates really is an art. However, just running into a guys head has never been cool and has to go!

Yup. Anything targeting a head should be removed. In saying that, because of differing heights and players skating bent over, sometimes the initial point of contact might be the head even on a clean hit.

The Ontario Hockey League will not have bodychecking this coming season.
However, they will have 74 minutes in penalties in each game. - jimbro83
Unbelievable, isn't it?
The (frank)ing Minister of Health came up with that beauty. I am dumbfounded that they couldn't find a better way. She should take a peek in on any men's league played anywhere around the province to see how much impact her brainstorm is going to have.

it makes absolutely no sense
if you believe Covid is as contagious as science says it is, just being on the bench with people, taking faceoffs against them, lining up in the faceoff circle next to them, that is enough to spread it

Don't they wear the full plastic face shields in the OHL, or is that not mandatory? I'm guessing they could wear full cages though. Not that any of it matters, but holy cow.

they may as well not play - jimbro83
