Maybe I'm missing the meaning of watered down, but I love the fact pretty much any team getting into the playoffs "could" make a run. I'd say thats more elite and very good players in the league, and when you have a bigger pool of players, you can expand and be successful if done right. - mdw7413
It's great for the league you can't get a 80s Edmonton or NYI anymore. It's possible that I'm quite not using the correct term, but the talent gaps just aren't as huge anymore.
I don't want a basketball like situation for our league, but I was just pointing out there isn't really that many barriers for Seattle being competitive within a few seasons. I just don't think we will see another Ottawa or Columbus type expansion team unless management is just super inept.

Yup, definitely agree with that.
Also agree going to be almost impossible to have dynasties anymore, which I like. If you are a fan of the team, its great, for everyone else it really sucks. |

That's how it should be. No fans of non-major market teams want to see the same 5 teams rotate winning year after year. |

Damn, NYC is boarding up leading up to the election. - aecliptic
Not the entire city. The main shopping streets are prepping for riots. My neighborhood is normal though. |

Who is Anthony Scultore? This guy needs some sense knocked into him. This idiot is advocating for the Rangers to trade for Tyler Johnson. |

I think Seattle is going to end up being a more "traditional" expansion team and they're going to suck for awhile. Everyone learned their lesson with Vegas and I don't think you'll see too many (if any at all) teams make the same mistakes. - eichiefs9
I think the flat cap could lead to a similar situation to Vegas. Obviously cup final is a long shot for Seattle but I could see teams giving assets to get Seattle to take a bad contract off their books which could lead to them getting some pretty good players/picks. Teams said they weren't going to do that but if a team is handcuffed and needs to make room for one of their core guys they may part with someone that's good but they don't see as a big part of their future, similar to Karlsson and Theodore |

Not surprised. I don’t see why teams can’t let 3-5 thousand fans in the building. |

So they say. I’m seeing fans at NCAA football and some pro games. I’m not hearing any repercussions from those events. |

NHL stadiums are smaller and indoors. I still think those NCAA games are a bad idea but at least it's outdoors. Think about funneling a few thousand people through Penn Station into MSG. Even if you put aside the health risk you pose the fans, this also would increase the likelihood players contract it. I'd rather fanless hockey over a cancelled season |

Point taken. However, if you can’t start to let some people in, you may not have pro sports at all. As well healed as ownership in pro sports might be, they can’t continue to play with no fans. It’s just not feasible. |

I'd sacrifice pro sports over human lives if that is the actual hypothetical we are considering. although i think that is a huge oversimplification of the potential outcomes |

Im a registered nurse that worked the COVID ICU at one of the NYC hospitals. If the rates were that high, the hospitals would be filling just as fast now as they did in March. Since this "spike" the number of inpatient COVID patients has held steady at between 20-25. No where near the 400+ we had in April. |
