Okay, but out of Scheifele, Copp, and Lowry, only Lowry has been handled well.
Lowry was given a smaller role early, had it slowly increase, was sent for a short stint in the A when his play faltered just to get rolling again, and then they plugged him back into the same role with 100% confidence. No issues.
Scheifele didn’t get a sideways glance for the 1C job until a Little injury forced it.
Copp has been overqualified in the bottom 6 for at least 2 seasons now, and was better as a centre for his entire tenure here and still got forced to the wing in favour of other players. - Rexypoo
Don't get me started with Little. I hope for all the best in his recovery, and he is a great person by all accounts. That being said, he was an absolute turnover machine. He was a purely offensive guy, who struggled to produce points. So ya, it was great to hand the TOI over to Scheiffs. I wouldn't say Copp is overqualified for a bottom 6 role. Any contender seems to have great depth scoring these days. He just needs better support.
Lowry is a plug. Physical force, yes. But he is not anything more than a 4C

Signed him for depth on the Moose. Doubt you'll ever see him play NHL games.

I guess Dano never had any issues with Maurice or the organization. |

I see Dano has now entered the category of worthless veteran that Chevy likes to sign, and Maurice likes to play over younger players. |

Incredibly bold of you to assume Maurice gives him more than a couple pre-season games, let alone an NHL roster spot |

Do the math. I'd say he's the 14th forward which puts him on the team if the Jets go (14f 7d 2g) for their 23 man roster.
Now if the Jets trade Roslovic, that means he's one injury from playing the 4th line.

Well, you’ve got (in probable Maurice ranking):
1: Scheifele
2: Wheeler
3: Connor
4: Laine
5: Ehlers
6: Stastny
7: Copp
8: Lowry
9: Roslovic
10: Perreault
11: Appleton
12: Harkins
13: Thompson
14: Toninato
15: Dano
And that’s not mentioning Perfetti, Gustafsson, Vesalainen, or even a major dark horse like Torgersson.
You’re also not accounting for the eight 1-way, waiver eligible defencemen the Jets already have without including Heinola and Samberg in the competition. |

Dano's 0.38ppg in the AHL doesn't scream NHL roster spot. |

He'll tell you that's cuz the Jets killed his confidence--Dano was destined for great things before coming to Winnipeg (the first time). Maurice (AKA the Anti-Christ) never gave him the chance he so deserved!
Dano must enjoy it, though--a real masochist--to come on back for another go round. LOL |

You two do realize that the comment you’re now discussing was me arguing against the idea of Dano getting a roster spot, right? |

In my opinion, this is a great signing.
Chevy signed him because he enjoys reading the discussion about Dano, here on Hockeybuzz. Its what he does on his days off. |

I think it is too, always felt Dano could of been a good 3rd or 4th liner, at the very least if this season ever gets rolling the Jets 4th line will be way better then it was in the 19-20 season which will have a positive impact. |

Why are you trying so hard to make a case Dano won't be on the team? Are you scared of getting your heart broken again?

Don't worry Rexy, Chevy will also bring Petan back.
Winnipeg Jets, an organization the never gives up on anybody and is now the perpetual place of 2nd and 3rd tries!!! |

An organization that struggles to attract better UFA's and is tops on most no trade lists should be one that gives guys with upside/pedigree
second tries/chances. |

This I agree with. It’s also likely the reason Detective Matty P is still on the Jets’ payroll.
In an offseason with so much drama around Laine, and the now many examples of disgruntled players leaving or wanting out, it looks good on them to keep their most loyal UFA on board until the end of his deal |

I'm a big Armia fan too but I don't just mean bringing back former Jets for a second chance.. Lol
An organization that has so much working against it(weather/taxes) in attracting talent should be looking for any advantage in can get. I'd much rather see the Jets taking on a younger low risk "reclamation project" on a cheap one year deal then signing some old retread, that being said I have liked the Jets veteran/depth signings this offseason.
Pittsburgh for example has had success with projects like Oleksiak and Schultz, idk if the Jets have player development coaches at the NHL level but if they had a guy like Gonchar that could help guys get their game on track that could go a long way in filling out the lineup with some decent players rather then plugs and deadweight.
That's just my opinion though. |
