if they can allow 1000 or 2k or whatever..maybe hold a lottery for tickets, so you can buy a chance to go for a small amount.
I really dont know if that even makes sense and is allowed. i know id buy a few shots at going to some games...if its safe - senstroll
It's a cool idea, but I doubt it will happen. The main reason, outside of the gambling piece of the puzzle, is the season ticket holders that are paying for tickets. They'd have to seat 1-2k season ticket holders that have already payed. I'm guestemating here, but let's say season tickets make up 1/2 of the arena. If you have a 20k stadium, like the Leafs (I think?), than at 1k attendance, as a season ticket holder, you could only go to 1 out of every 10 games. 1 out of every 5 at 2k. This will be fascinating to see how this all works.
A bunch of franchises were carrying a pretty big debt load before the pandemic and they're going to be hurting. I had read that the Coyotes were valued at $300M, owed $300M and were losing $50M/year. (They were 3 months late on their rent at one point this summer.)
The League has a $1.7B available for teams (they can borrow up to $100M at lower than commercial rates) but some could go down if they lose the season. - Canada Cup
Oh ya some teams are being asked to decide between losing money and losing more money.
Using Arizona they've already chopped their expenses pretty significantly. Player salary is the heaviest cost but they've chopped it down to about 62 million plus that'll be reduced by another 28% minimum.
They can negotiate other salaries and their lease with Glendale for the year to reduce further. Their other partners (The city, local vendors, tv, sponsors, etc...) all need to minimize losses too so they'll be some temporary renegotiations in place. The league's plan itself has to include massive reduction in costs for travel and hotel.
I'm definitely optimistic but I just think this billion dollar industry will find a way to make it happen.

I'm a ticket guy up here (thru a corp.) and I know of tonnes of season ticket guys (me included) that'll happily defer our tickets/costs for the year. Up here I don't think all the corps will be anxious to get to the front of the line until 21/22'.

And I'm sure everyone's watching the NFL right now. High caseload states are allowing ~12,000 into the stadiums. Setting aside whether it's a good idea or not has it been a major negative storyline so far? Maybe it's only a matter of time but for now that's bread on the table for those owners/players.

I have my own pair for the Bruins. I'd rather forego payment as well, but I've already paid for 90% of this season, so I'd be a bit ticked off if they decided to sell tickets to other people or run some type of lottery.

Some stadiums I look and I'm like "what are you doingggg!? Then, there are others, such as Atlanta, that looked very safe. The space between people even looked quite wide when they zoomed out and showed the arena. I think it was Atlanta at least.

So far my intel tells me that I'll get a full credit towards 21' if this coming season is not available to me.
