Because you are trying to defend the punk areshole, that bullied the disabled boy..
Holy smokes. - bixll
Dude.
When the hell have I tried to defend the kid for his actions?
You are using disabled people as an insult towards me...I really truly hope you can see how your actions here are truly disappointing.
You cant go on and be angry about a disabled kid being bullied then be a bully yourself by calling me disabled....The irony |

Or that there were no cellphone cameras when I went to university.
I'm glad I don't have to explain the cultural importance of the elephant walk to people who have never played rugby. |

I had initially defended the action thinking that a 12 or 13 year old kid shouldn't be held accountable as an adult 6 years later. Then I read yesterday that 2 years after the conviction, the bullied boy's mother claimed he was still calling the kid the N-word and being an ass to him when he was 16. That doesn't sound like someone changing for the better or growing up. - Monkeypunk

My mother-in-law, who is 73, lives with us. She has COPD and a weak heart. It's a risk we don't want to take.
There have been studies that have attempted to discredit the impacts of mask wearing, yet the underlying numbers showed that 50% of those who "wore masks all the time but still got COVID" had been out to eat indoors at a restaurant, and 71% of those same respondents had been indoors at a bar or casino as well. I think those numbers are probably exaggerated, but the point remains that I believe in the underlying context behind them.
The virus is at its most effective indoors particularly in poorly ventilated or poorly circulated areas. This describes my favourite local pub.
That said, we did go to a patio a couple of times when the weather was better this summer and had a meal stuck in an extended portion of the patio in the corner of a parking lot . . . it's a very peculiar time. - Monkeypunk

So keep in mind I thought that Brett Kavanaugh was not fit to be named a Supreme Court Justice due to his illegal actions during the whole "Whitewater Scandal!" - when he leaked classified info at the behest of Ken Starr.
Having said that, reading his high school yearbook and using that against him was as horrifying as it was stupid.
I don't know this Mitchell kid from a hole in the wall. I don't have a dog in this fight.
But I do find it frightening that a kid made mistakes at the ages of 12-14, was tried and convicted, paid his debt to society, and he is now being prevented from moving on by the angry mob.
And on an even more depressing note, I fully guarantee that there will now be some story that comes out about how the mother or father of the victim stole a car or broke a store window 25 years ago. Because that's usually how these things work. - Atomic Wedgie

I'm not too worried about my kids.
Not because I don't think they'll do stupid stuff that might recorded, they very well might. Hell they probably will because that's what teenagers do.
But I simply cannot imagine my kids doing something THAT horrible for THAT long.
The way we are raising them, and seeing them grow everyday I dare think they'd never do it. - Scabeh
Is it that the team is only finding out how bad the behaviour is now and decided it was just more than they could tolerate? |

No, they actually issued a statement saying they knew but intended to work with him towards being a better human being.
But now it seems like it's not worth it for them a 4th round draftee and they'd rather just drop him.

The bull poop that goes on in hazing in junior leagues is disturbing. Aliu was the first to come out with it and Downie’s career was already over.
Wait until some stuff comes out about players in the league today. - Santo_44
With this cancel culture we now have, they have their contract terminated.
But I'm the type of person to give someone a second chance cause WE all did very stupid thing in our youth |

Of course, teenagers will do stupid stuff, make mistakes. They all shouldn't be crucified. In many cases, I'm against cancel culture because it tends to take things too far.
But what that guy did, for YEARS, to the same disabled kid is just sick.
Not that many people did/will do that.
And I completely understand an organization who wants nothing to do with that. |

I don't know him. I don't know the victim. I don't know the reality of the situation. I don't know if the mother's claims of abuse beyond the conviction are true are not.
I don't know enough to cancel this kid forever. |

granted, kids will be kids and everyone does make mistakes...
I initially thought it went on for 2 years, but to read that it was done for over 4 years, means that he knew full well what he was doing was wrong and did it anyway. This wasn't an isolated incident. I think the Coyotes are doing the right thing.

I think people need to see the long game and get rid of cancel culture.
1. Cancel culture I think is largely a corporate phenomenon where faceless organizations don't want to sacrifice short term profits so they break ties immediately to save face
2. People who are canceled don't have the opportunity to take a walk of shame or own up to their pooptyness in the face of their peers, it's not a character building exercise to get fired, it only galvanizes their pooptyness.
3. A jobless homeless racist is much less productive and less benefiting to the collective good than a reformed racist with a job and a home
If someone fails to demonstrate that they can learn, then by all means fire them out of a canon and into Kaptaan's weird-ass free speech thread |

That was his unflattering moment in the spotlight; I think he's done.
I will say that 12-14 year old kids absolutely know right from wrong, but they are far more prone to herd mentality / peer pressure, and also still have a relatively undeveloped sense of empathy. It's easy to get caught up in bad behaviour. It's easy to get caught up in not getting caught or not getting in trouble.
It's also easy to replicate behaviours learned at home.
None of this is an excuse for what he did, but I'm just saying that there is a lot of maturation and growth that happens to people through their teens and even into their twenties.
