My mother-in-law, who is 73, lives with us. She has COPD and a weak heart. It's a risk we don't want to take.
There have been studies that have attempted to discredit the impacts of mask wearing, yet the underlying numbers showed that 50% of those who "wore masks all the time but still got COVID" had been out to eat indoors at a restaurant, and 71% of those same respondents had been indoors at a bar or casino as well. I think those numbers are probably exaggerated, but the point remains that I believe in the underlying context behind them.
The virus is at its most effective indoors particularly in poorly ventilated or poorly circulated areas. This describes my favourite local pub.
That said, we did go to a patio a couple of times when the weather was better this summer and had a meal stuck in an extended portion of the patio in the corner of a parking lot . . . it's a very peculiar time. - Monkeypunk
We've had a couple of meals on makeshift patios on the street - it's a little weird to have cars driving by, 5 feet from your table. |

people dont have to explain why they dont want to go to a restaurant right now.
we havent been to an indoor or outdoor restaurant since the first week of march. we wont be anytime soon. have done some take out..but not much.
this is floating around and explains how things transmit, seems like a good read

one thing we have done a lot of is hiking, and plan to do snow shoeing in the winter.
also, we are saving a lot of money in fuel and food spending. |

I fully understand your situation.
But I think it is important to realize that some have the opposite situation from you and can afford to do these things and help our struggling businesses.
Everyone has a role to play. Shaming people for going to restaurants and patios is just as poor as shaming them for not going.
We need to help each other out wether that be our physical health, mental health, or just someones wellbeing. Plenty of people are struggling out there on many different levels. |

I did that a few times when my pub put a "patio" out on the roadside. It was hot out so the breeze of the cars going by was really nice.
But now Covid killed my pub and I now need to grab a pint at Mexitaco's patio. |

If you are planning to do any winter sports, you need to buy your stuff now.
I just bought some new ski boots - was chatting with the guy in the store. He said they are doing December levels of sales in October. He also said that they are basically sold out of x-country equipment. |

$3.05M AVV for Olofsson in Buffalo.
That seems like a lot to me for what he's done. |

oh I know, we already took care of it.
We also did a ton of biking over the summer, and have some old poopty bikes...started to look at new ones...and umm...for some prices I can buy a car.
prices had to jump up? we have family members who bought new bikes last fall and the same ones are double the price now.
we put off buying new ones until the spring...if that helps..probably not |

Fack, that means the ski hills will be packed with facking newbies.
Line ups were gonna already be longer thanks to having less people on the chairs. |

I was thinking about it, and we'd like to do some skiing but without any other sports, I might actually get some studded tires and try my hand at some winter cycling this year. |

Love it. One of my fondest memories is hitting a patch of ice and crashing into an old lady who was slowly going 90 degrees perpendicular to the direction of the run in a location where two black diamond runs converged at Tremblant.
I felt bad at the time but in hindsight she totally deserved it. |

i have a hybrid frame kicking around that I'm going to build up into a budget offroader, doesn't have the fork clearance for fat tires unfortunately
moneys tight right now because the (frank)heads who diy reno'd my house while they owned it made a point of doing really important things completely wrong |
