NEW YORK -- Nolan Patrick is week to week for the Philadelphia Flyers and will not be able to start the season at the 2019 NHL Global Series.

The forward has a migraine disorder, and Flyers general manager Chuck Fletcher said they haven't decided if he will be placaed on injured reserve or long-term injured reserve.

"He's taking the medication now and we're hoping that settles down the migraines and gets him to feeling 100 percent from a health perspective," Fletcher said Thursday prior to a preseason game at the New York Rangers. "After that, he's skated a bit but he's essentially missed all of training camp. He hasn't played games. He hasn't been in any battle drills. We're going to have to make sure we get him the conditioning work he needs. Hopefully by the time we get back from Europe we'll have a better sense of where he's at from a health perspective and after that if it's all going well it's just a matter of conditioning."

Philadelphia opens the season Oct. 4 against the Chicago Blackhawks in Prague. The Flyers leave Friday for Switzerland, where they will play against National League team Lausanne on Monday, and Patrick will not be on the trip.

Fletcher said Patrick notified the Flyers in June that he was experiencing headaches. They worked with Patrick throughout the offseason to try to get to the root of the problem, consulting various medical experts, including a neurologist. They were concerned because the headaches came on randomly.

"That was the confusing part of it from a medical perspective, but we consulted a lot of different people and I think we feel we're in a good place medically," Fletcher said. "We'll hope for the best."

Fletcher said the 21-year-old has a history of migraines from when he was younger. He said there is also a family history of migraines and added that the doctors do not believe the headaches to be concussion-related.

"At this point I think he feels relieved to know what it is," Fletcher said. "The doctor feels that there's a regimen he can put him on with medication so we can control the situation and we're hopeful."

Patrick had 31 points (13 goals, 18 assists) in 72 games last season. The No. 2 pick in the 2017 NHL Draft, behind Nico Hischier of the New Jersey Devils, has 61 points (26 goals, 35 assists) in 145 NHL games.

Reports headaches 6/19 still hasn’t played nhl game. Again name any player that’s missed 18 months with migraines that just suddenly come on? Without trauma. There aren’t any. The team lied

Last response. The team did not state that Patrick had a childhood issue with migraines. That is false. You don't have a grasp of the record on who said what and what was said. That is clear with every post you make.

I copied and pasted article in full for you to read. Not that I expect you to understand that fletcher specifically said Patrick had childhood issue with migraines that you say he never said. Who doesn’t have a grasp of the record? Who clear with every post? Can’t wait for your nonsense of a response o wise one. Once again facts slaps you upside the head. Go ahead give me the rebuttal. SMS gloats as the almighty mjl plans his next false native post

Hayden Fluery ....2 years 2.6 m.....1.3 AAV...does this set a decent comparison for Myers ? I kind of think so.

Hope so. Myers might get a tad more tho. Potential to play top pair might give him a little extra leverage

Saw someone for a problem. Never had the problem again for 7-8 years.

First of all, I’d like to apologize to everyone reading this for kicking this can when I really just want to stop hearing the word “migraine” repeatedly.

It didn’t say someone. The named person was an eye doctor. I really hope that you have noticed that most people with a vision problem or eye specific illness/injury go see an eye doctor.

If I had to guess, I would be thinking of things like photophobia, hyperopia, strabismus, and diplopia. I seriously would not consider seeing the eye doctor for a concussion or migraine unless I also had a vision problem or eye specific illness/injury.

It’s quite the leap of supposes you are making.

Well on a lighter note. Whatever the problem was that he saw whatever doctors for at least he didn’t have any more issues for 7-8 years 👍🏻👍🏻

The record is well documented. The team, Fletcher has stated multiple times that Patrick had some migraine issues back in junior hockey(IN WHICH HE WOULD BE A TEENAGER AND NOT A CHILD) as well as a family history. As far as the 7-8 year gap is concerned, that comes from a statement made by Patrick himself , NOT THE TEAM, in which he stated that he had an eye issue as a child , NOT A MIGRAINE ISSUE and then didn't have any issues for 7-8 years.

Eye issues often accompany migraines (people see a halo, even with mild migraines).

In the context where Patrick answered the question, it would be pointless to mention the eye issue if it did not have something to do with the head issues. Otherwise, he might as well have mentioned dysentery or the flu.

My guess is that the eye issues were perhaps the most prominent manifestation of a relevant illness, and that Patrick had no other history of migraine related issues since.

If he did have further issues, it would be very misleading to bring up the issue mentioned and not subsequent problems.

We know that this is not true. It is documented that he had migraine issues while playing junior hockey. We also know that he has a diagnosed migraine condition now.

Documentation from years in the future. You still can’t produce any article pre 6/17 saying anything migraine related. You aren’t a bright person. You’re a sheep
