Let's get back to arguing what Fletcher hasn't done to make the team ready for opening day (despite it not being formally set) and why he hasn't done it already. |

So are we pretending that the concussion protocol is fool proof now and that there still aren't players that lie about/downplay symptoms to get back to playing? I'm not saying Patrick did this, but I assume this still happens.
I don't see how the team would be at fault if that happened, or why they would lie about it for months. - Ftown19125
Its not fool proof. But there are always more things that can be done, I am sure. So I believe his thesis is that everything reasonable was done but no smoking gun found, so with the family history, and perhaps some similarity of nature of headaches to migraines, suspicion pointed to that.
And perhaps later the needle started to shift towards PCS because migraines did not respond to treatment/rest the way it usually does.
And by that time, they did not want to get into the public issue of: Good God, you mean your staff missed concussions? Did you not learn anything from Lindros? Did you do test X? If so, how about test Y? No? Bloody Hell! Because Dr. Z from Atlanta says it should have been done!
Its just a conjecture.
I will say this though. This discussion is turning morbid because of the amount of energy being expended on it.

I will give his thesis, best as I understand it, my spin:
1. No history of head ailments of any sort before this one.
2. When current issues occur, puzzlement, no clear answers from imaging.
3. Learn that NP has family history of migraines, maybe had ones himself not significant enough to report.
4. Surmise that 3 is the culprit.
5. Treat migraines, but usual recovery timeline exceeded.
6. Suspicion starts to mount that he is suffering from PCS with or without migraines.
7. By now locked in to migraine story. Revealing they were wrong might mean faulty diagnostics back last year, fault of Flyers medical staff.
So, Patrick would stay silent because genuine due diligence was done at the time of initial onset of symptoms, but no smoking gun was found and now he has no interest in rocking the boat either.
You may or may not believe this, but I don't see logical holes in this story. - PT21
I don't believe it, but that's okay.
A lie about a mistake is worse than just admitting a mistake was made, or even saying "Well, we're just not sure anymore - head/brain injuries are challenging. Yes, it sucks, we wish we knew more, but we're going to keep addressing it."
-shrug-
I'm done caring about the HB theories on this topic. I hope he gets better, and I hope he gets better enough to be able to successfully resume his hockey career.

Facts are simple and facts are straight
Facts are lazy and facts are late
Facts all come with points of view
Facts don't do what I want them to
Facts just twist the truth around
Facts are living turned inside out
Facts are getting the best of them
Facts are nothing on the face of things
Facts don't stain the furniture
Facts go out and slam the door
Facts are written all over your face
Facts continue to change their shape

And yet, it happens ALL the time in the professional world. And there are institutional reasons for it. That is why defendants settles suits so often without any admission of wrongdoing. And confidentiality agreements. |

The discussion is turning morbid for one because he is completely clueless then add that you're calling his opinion a thesis. It's hysterical.

There's no value to the Flyers to lie about it. They don't care about any criticism towards that. Ignorant posters are acting like medicine is an exact science. That doctors don't make incorrect diagnosis or mistakes. What exactly would be the fall out if the Flyers came out and said that Patrick's diagnosis has been changed? Nothing! They only care about getting him healthy and ready to play.

Honestly I think nopa had concussion and probably didn’t know it. Many players said they didn’t realize they played with concussion. And I don’t think he reported his symptoms because he’s young and probably didn’t want to come out of lineup. Probably got a second concussion while playing with the first one. Which led him to be out so long. At the end of the day hopefully he’s ok and returns and excels. Which I think he will. But if not I won’t be surprised. But I won’t just accept his career took an avoidable path from a childhood condition. |

Here's Patrick talking specifically about his migraine disorder, issues he had as a kid and how this is completely different than when he had concussions in the past. What his treatment for migraines is like. He's been really coached well to help the Flyers in the cover up.

A couple of things that expose you here. First is saying that he probably got a second concussion while playing with the first. Any doctor will tell you that's not getting a second concussion. Until you're fully healed, taking another blow is not getting a second concussion. It's just piling on. You also seem to be unaware that incidents such as getting hit in the head with a puck or any other blow to the head can be triggers that bring on migraines. The blows to the head are triggers and not the cause. You also frequently lie to equate your experience of that of a pro athlete. If you read the link that I posted from a true and actual expert, you'll hopefully realize how foolish that makes you look.

Did you read the article? Nowhere in it did he say he had migraines as a kid. He said he saw a eye doctor for an issue and had no further problems for 7-8 years. That’s not gonna lead to chronic migraine disorder. He also did say currently as of 12/3/19 when article was written that he had “more issues than migraines but he wasn’t gonna get into that”. That’s a concussion. But believe what you want. Obvious trumper reading article and trying to twist the clear statements and info to fit the mjl narrative. |

Other articles have been posted detailing that Patrick had migraine issues pre draft as well as a family history. If you want to be ignorant and ignore that then that is your issue.

He’s either holding out for a multi year deal or is waiting for a Specific team To clear space in order to sign....pretty sure he’s had a few offers. Or maybe as simple as he’s asking for too much $.

From Dr. Stephanie J. Nahas, a neurologist at the Thomas Jefferson University Headache Center
"There are plenty of elite athletes who deal with migraines that are pretty substantial, but luckily are able to manage it. Others whose careers have been completely derailed by migraine, whether they had a head injury or not.”
