I'm still trying to work out how anyone can compare Kubalik (ok .. maybe) but Kahun?! to Panarin - ok- sure they both wore a 72 for some teams --- and play wing -- that's pretty much it.

Panarin was basically the squandered resource Chicago had dropped in its lap -and its slavish attitude towards its core - you get this ... well, actually no... you get this and that post some one in the front office decided to post to social media as if it meant anything. Sad, really...

The Athletic’s hockey writers have the Blackhawks ranked #26 in their off season power rankings.

Lottery Contender

26. Chicago Blackhawks

Some of the voters took this poll before Chicago’s front office released a letter stating its intention to rebuild, but the writing was on the wall with the team’s offseason. The majority of The Athletic’s staff get it right as it’ll be very difficult for the Blackhawks to contend for anything but a lottery spot after moving on from Corey Crawford, the primary reason the team had any relevance last season.

I think we need to look at the fact that this season most likely will not be a full 82 game season, so Seabs can have this season to round into playing shape. It's not like the Blackhawks are a favorite this season and will be leaning on him to be the #1 guy. This may be a perfect storm for him to get back closer to the player he was in a few seasons. Maybe think of this season as an extended pre-season for him.
- powerenforcer

That is my hope with Seabrook. Forget about trade talk -his contract is among the most untradeable ones in the NHL. Play him, give him top 4 minutes, and see where it goes. Don't shelter him. He says he is still capable. Give him the chance to prove it. This year will probably be a write-off any way for this team. Seabrook either cuts it or ends up permanently on LTIR -either scenario will benefit the Hawks.

I may be mistaken here, but Seabrook was already deemed well enough to play as per his participation in practice during RTP. He chose to not play due to conditioning.

He would have to have a major setback (not out of the question) to be placed on LTIR.

I believe the team made the decision, Seabrook was upset about it if i recall. If 7 played in the amount of pain that he said he was in then the Blackhawks FO did the responsible thing and i bet it was a Dr's decision

I mentioned in another post my take is he sits on LTIR this entire upcoming season if they can't find a trade partner which is likely. After that the race is on to unload. I stated he may play some games as some kind of "tryout" or audition that he's healthy if they wanna go that route instead of the sit him out, stash him, and wait it out approach. In 2yrs it becomes modified ntc. He's not gonna be a hawk after 2yrs. If you mean hawk for life as in he never plays again and we bury him then maybe but he won't be on the roster in 4yrs.
- ctbullets

I have to imagine if he's healthy or on his way to being healthy, he has to go through physical therapy. They probably doubled down and asked Seabrook not to work out by himself but to have a physical trainer so he doesn't reinjure himself and is in peak physical condition next season.

In baseball pitchers would get Tommy John surgery or rotator cuff surgery and when they came back they noticed an unusual trend, pitchers gained mph on their fastball. So the physical therapy became a common work out for MLB players

Seabrook is smart enough to play the position i believe his lack of motion to flex the hips back and forth really affected his over all game, we'll see

In order to keep him that would be 3 players making over $10 mil, Panarin at $11.5 hell no

Yeah, I’m likely in fantasyland as well on this one but my hope is the surgeries worked and Seabs takes a sip from the fountain of youth and is able to play like a possible top 4 or at least a more than serviceable 3rd pairing guy.
- HawkintheD

He will be. Reports were he could barely sit down to take a s*** because his hip was so bad and his shoulder was so bad he couldn't raise up his arm to throw a ball to his kid.

I don't even know how he managed to play. Every stop and start and every hit had to be excruciating.

Explains why he couldn't stay on his feet too.

I think people who are still angry about Panarin are in denial that keeping him would have likely meant Kane and his Cap hit had to go.

If not you’d have maybe one and a half lines and not much else.

Hey Dots. Every article I've read about it (granted from the SunTimes and the Athletic), state that he was the one who chose not to play. I'm sure he was upset about not playing, but I believe it was his decision.

Now that could very well have been influenced by the coaching staff maybe telling him that he likely wouldn't play, but there is nothing that I've seen to back that up.

Whew. Thank goodness I don't have to watch them now. The Athletic writers all said they'd be poope, so it must be true.

This is the biggest "no crap" ever. If history is any indication, there will inevitably be a string of articles if/when the Hawks go on a little run, saying that "maybe they are ahead of the curve". That will morph into the "they are just too young/not good enough to play with the big boys" when they fall short. Then we get the same dumbass articles at the end of the year with a fan poll asking about people's confidence in the coach, GM, "direction of the team", etc, conveniently forgetting about the current state and trajectory of the team. And finally, my personal favorite, "the Hawks wasted another year of Kane and Toews talent", "have you asked them to waive their NTC or have they asked to be moved?".

My rant is not directed at you Scottak. I just have grown very tired of the writers for that site.

I loved having Artemi on the team & it's my moniker, but he didn't deserve that contract. I'm glad it's not on our books. He lost his explosiveness in the playoffs with us. Nashville, our first goal in the third game came from Rasmussen. No one looked good, but he was nowhere. In the St. Louis series the year prior he was better, but nothing that got us out of round 1. If he wanted to get paid, that was his right, but he wasn't a star here, & he wasn't a playoff competitor. But the Rangers ought to be fun to watch soon.

He needs some muscle playing along side him and Anisimov and Kane were not those kind of players.

Dach not invited to Canada's WJC selection camp. Not a surprise and honestly would rather he not play and risk injury especially with the NHL season likely to be compact.

Minor deals but still implications for re-signing the bigger fish in Tampa, i.e. Cirelli, Sergachev, Cernak.

@SWhyno

Lightning deals to re-sign Pat Maroon and Luke Schenn are actually done now. Maroon $1.8M over 2 years, Schenn $900K for one year.

You are correct, it looks like he said he didn't feel right yet? Didn't want to take a roster spot.

I agree. It is in the player's best interest and the team's best interest if Seabs, DeHaan, Shaw and even Smith are healthy and fit to play in 2021. I am not sure if any of them are movable/tradeable, and if they were we would not get back anything much (or have to add a piece to move them).

If they are ready to play and play well, it makes for serious competition for roster spots and TOI. Also it allows the Hawks to bring the younger players along slowly, which could be beneficial in the long run.

If the AHL does not star until February, I could see the NHL allowing the younger players to be "Black Aces" until the AHL training camps open. It would not make sense to have a gap between the end of the NHL training camp and the beginning of the AHL training camp. So theoretically the Hawks could keep everyone they invite to training camp in Chicago and practicing. They would have two levels of practices. One for the expanded NHL rosters. One for AHL players. They could have 15~18 forwards, 8~10 Dmen, and 4 goalies practicing in Chicago at the NHL practices from early December until early January. The others could be having AHL practices separately, but still in Chicago.

You can easily compare Kahun and Kubalik to Hossa. I have seen that many times on this board. I can compare Carpenter to Kane. It is like comparing BMW to Ford. But saying that Kubalik or Kahun are in the same class as Hossa is crazy. I have not seen that on this board.

I like that idea of Black Aces for training camp and splitting them into two groups as you described.

The Flyers AHL team just announced their training camp will open on January 3 so can imagine the Hogs training camp will open around then, too.

Makes a bit more sense. He's the best center on the team. I see no reason for him to go. I don't see how it helps his development at the NHL level.
