Sens are going to be terrible
back in the day, I wanted the Leafs to draft him so bad cuz they needed a C...like I would have been fine if they traded a poop ton to move up to get him... Bozak Connelly was what we had
now we have Matthews Tavares...and people write articles about the JT mistake signing.... so (frank) off with that - senstroll
He hadn't played C outside of 45 games for the Sting at any level. I just don't get why nobody (even the experts) look into this? Like when Burke said JVR played centre in the past...like wtf are you watching his Timbits games? |

So how do playoffs work in this model I wonder? Top 4 from each division for 16 team tournament? That means 3 bubble teams from Canada, one from Central and one poopty team from Pacific are in. Do they do some rounds in each division to bring it down to 2 each?
Also, awards are going to be impossible to sort out if teams don’t play each other. - Canada Cup
The answer is: nobody knows.
The NHL is currently putting together 20 different plans. They won't make decisions until they absolutely have to.
My best guess is 4 divisions (one Canadian). No bubbles - go with the NFL model. 48 games, all within division.
Playoffs? Probably 4 teams from each division make it, 1st two rounds are also only within your division. Then a bubble for final two rounds.
That's my wild guess, based upon absolutely no insider info whatsoever. |

I love what he says, but it feels like false promises. Like this Nigerian lawyer who just keeps taking my money and never sending me my inheritance from my Nigerian Prince uncle. Hurry up, dude! It turns out the sales guy was wrong and this Lambo doesn't "pay for itself". - Monkeypunk

That would be pretty good. Leafs should be able to make the playoffs easily in that format.
It would be cool to see a lot more of McDavid and Pettersson too.
Not sure how effective tkatchuk would be against the big boys for the leafs...one of matthews best friends and marner played with him in juniors. They would know all his antics to get under guys skin. |

At the moment I'm sort of thinking the same as your best guess.
I would think they are hedging though - is a vaccine going to be ready? Let's face it - the rich and rich-impacted entertainment industries are going to get the first crack at any trusted vaccine.
I don't think numbers will trend down enough to make a safe decision nor to open the borders - but they may make limited exceptions by then, too. Given the way numbers are trending now you wouldn't think restaurants, bars, casinos and schools would still be open, but here we are. |

A lot of people did.. Most thought that Boston would slow down a little but they didn't.
I am hoping next season, Boston struggles - PatC80

I'm sorry. Did I imply that there was a better model or even another model? I'm not familiar with the models in use - but I am familiar with Dom's work, which allows me to criticize the parts I don't like. I like much of what he does. I also like how he's pretty transparent about what he's attempting to do.
What I said was that Dom continues to tweak his model, despite it continually favouring teams that are heavy on offense over teams that are better on defense. I don't feel his tweaks are made to consider defense, but rather to lessen the overall impact of the offense slant. I do think he needs to revamp the defensive considerations. Obviously I don't know his formulas, but when look at his results and projections, there's clearly a bias towards offense. - Monkeypunk
Are we talking playoff success as well?
I think his regular season model has worked quite well because offence and skill has proved to be more valuable in the regular season.
I think he’s been pretty accurate the past few years considering his competitors. |

The one thing that I'm not looking forward to:
All the late-night games. Winnipeg will be doable, but Vancouver, Edmonton and Calgary?
I'm going to have to get out the old transistor radio and listen to the 2nd and 3rd period under the covers, and hope my parents don't catch me. |

Yup. He was right about this one.
Which, according to him, makes up for all the other stuff he was wrong about.

The NHL will just do what they always do; bend the knee to the Leafs. So most games would be at a reasonable hour. |

Every year, when the Leafs play in Vancouver at 4:30 pm EST, I wander into the Canucks thread and write a post that basically says: "Not looking forward to staying up really late to watch the game, but hey, it is what it is. I'd have to be a completely self-centred Torontonian douchebag to expect the NHL to frank over Vancouver fans just to cater to Leafs fans."
And every year, they fall for it and inform me that in fact the game is at 4:30 EST.
It's glorious. |

Top of article:
This year, we’re introducing a tiered approach to the rankings, with staff asked to put each team into one of 10 categories based on this ranking guide for each tier.
Cup Favorite (1-2): Teams that are likeliest to play in the Cup Final
Cup Contender (3-5): Teams that have a real shot at winning the Cup
Dark Horse (6-9): Teams that can make some noise in the playoffs and surprise
Playoff Team (10-13): Teams that are likely to make the playoffs
Further down:
5. Toronto Maple leafs - Dark Horse - Atomic Wedgie
Good thing they don't charge *too* much for this.
