Must be steep prices to move these contracts. 1st round picks all day I guess. - Aaron_85
Oh yaaaa. I'd imagine there is probably little/no interest in taking 4 x 5m off TB's hands right now. I'd guess you'd have to really sweeten that to get any bites.
Tampa doesn't have to be compliant until the season "starts" but I'd imagine they've considered the other option.
option 1 - paying heavy sweeteners to cut Johnson and probably taking 25c on the dollar to move Killorn;
option 2 - Saying (frank) it we just won the Cup we don't need to pay the sweeteners to move those guys. Instead let move real assets for cheap ELC contracts.
So instead of Johnson and a 1st or good prospect or whatever for just cap space they move Cirelli for a good young player making 900k.
It's not ideal but it could be the better option if teams will pay for Cirelli. And it may be their only option if the guys with NMC/NTC can't be moved.

NBA just "set" Jan 18th. I'd imagine the NHL will "set" the best possible (optimistic) date and pray to the gods.

The NHL cancelling the winter classic and all star weekend has made some fans a little nervous.. I think they could still have a shortened season, but who knows?

Those are super-spreader weekends, lots of media and fan events, so that's understandable. |

It's gone quiet. TB got a list from Johnson - no bites. TB thru him on waivers - no bites. It's a tough scenario.
Stamkos would be a Hail Mary. He'd have to want to leave and it doesn't sound realistic given what he did to stay there.
They have to move about 10 million. Killorn almost has to be one of the guys. Maybe Palat too if they can't find a new home that Johnson's happy with. - The Law
i fully expect them to wiggle out of it easily and chug along not missing a beat |

I guess we shall see after the GM meetings. Wouldn't be shocked if a deal is done for a player for peanuts.

TB will likely LTIR Stamkos and not have to move anyone. Maybe Coburn or Pacquette are traded. But no big moves are required. Stamkos then will miraculously return for the playoffs and Tampa will repeat as Cup champs. Sergachev, Cirelli and Cernak sign bridge deals. Stamkos winning Conn Smythe would be hilarious. |

Perhaps this is just the 50 years of being a Leafs fan talking, but if my team won the Stanley Cup, I wouldn't question a single franking move they did for the next 10 years.
Tampa gives up a draft pick to move Stamkos? Excuse me while I go buy another hat.
Chicago sends out a letter saying we are gutting the team? Please continue to take my money. |

They need to find a way to earn some revenue. As much as they complained about the cost of a bubble, it’s better than nothing especially if they’ve already started paying out some % of next season’s contracts which I think I read on here. |

I really wonder if this could mean the end of the all star game altogether.
I get that the game is really for the corporate partners, but can't you achieve the exact same thing through the outdoor games? |

Forgive me for pointing out the obvious, but if revenues < expenses, do the Arizonas and New Jerseys of the league really want to play? |

Franking classic Toronto moment.
For 50 years, the joke has been "plan the parade."
WE DIDN'T PLAN A FRANKING PARADE!!!
In grade 9, four of us (two guys, two girls) skipped school to go down to Bay Street for the Argos Grey Cup ticker tape parade.
One of the girls bumped into her father - he was skipping work to be there.
Today she is known as Mrs. Wedgie. |

Agreed. If they do have a shortened season (48-60 games) there is no need for a Winter Classic or All-Star Game..
Some on Twitter were a bit on edge about it though |
