This kid is in a well-respected university. He has time to be educated and informed to be a better person in society. It is not the NHL's job to enlighten him, his scholarship and classes, experience, counseling that he is getting for free can make him a better person, and then he can bring himself to apologize, show some remorse for those hate crimes and then some team can draft or sign him and give him that second chance.

That's the opposite of what we need.

In this situation, the rights of an individual were trampled by another. Historically societies that don't focus on the individual allow trampling on the weakest because the net impact to society is negligible.

If the reports are accurate that he displayed 0 remorse and just went on an apology tour around the time of the draft, I could understand the position of the team.

I don't know the details so it's tough for me to cast aspersion. A couple of journalists put their integrity on the line for this. If they are proven to be wrong it could cost them significantly. Despite people wanting to call it "cancel culture" we'll see what his response is to this.

Had he displayed remorse; would society's reaction be different? That I'm not too sure of. But, we don't know for certain.

2nd changes need to be earned not given. And certainly. Some people never earn a second chance.
