CBA stuff, must jump in....

When the player files for arb, the team elects the term (but they can't delay UFA, so Ullmark couldn't be 2 years).

If the award is over 4.5m and change on a 1 year deal, the team can walk away, making the player a UFA

If the award is over 4.5m on a 2 year deal, the team can walk away (essentially from the 2nd year), making it a 1 year deal and making the player a UFA after the 1 year.

There's no reason for the Sabres to ask for 2 years on Sam.

- Lunaion

They were never asking for 2 years for Reinhart and they were never walking away from an ARB award.

The Bertuzzi ARB award is more than a clue about why Reinhart took $5.2M when it seemed like his award would be closer to $6M.

His ARB award was never going to be $7M or more. That was not readily apparent if anybody took even 5 minutes to look at the allowable comparables.

Maybe they walk from olloffson?

Almighty WET1

Why did Sam take less $ than arbitration would have certainly handed him?

- Boss34

They are not walking away from Olofsson, plus he won't get 4.5mill.

The Sabres have given Reinhart everything he need to succeed, but he has to want to succeed, himself.

I heard the Sabres mentioned, basically be careful if it goes to arbitration. You might not have a job. I'm paraphrasing.

I interpreted that as ullmark, sam or olloffson.

Someone pointed out that the minimum ( team walkway price) was a contract over 4.8ish? Which eliminated ullmark.

Day or 2 later sam signs for 1 year at 5.2 , which seems like less than he would have received in arbitration?

WET1 can't fit Sam's entire body down his throat, and he's acting like the Sabres would never let him walk.

There's definitely a price value for every player. 7+ for sam with all the available free agents? Trades available for expensive talents. Laine for example. Covid offseason prices.

8 for hall is a prime example.

I'm not saying this didn't happen...I have no insider info.
But it makes absolute zero sense.
They over pay Girgensons by $800k and do so for 3 years, but they would walk away from Sam over at most the same $800k for 1 season.
If true, something else is going on.

Yeah, very much this. Girgelson must look good in his speedos on the yacht cause I still don't understand that.

Just to clarify, I believe I'm in the ballpark here, the projected AAV for for 1 year was around 5.2 - 5.4, and the 2 year contract AAV was around 5.75sh IF THEY NEGOTIATED A DEAL OUTSIDE ARB. That said, it is reasonable to assume those projects would be in-line with the Arb decision as well. Maybe Kong could post Evolving Hockeys projections for better clarity.

Since Arb options for Term are 1 or 2 years, the longer term projections for Sam at 6, 7, 8 years that had $7.0+ estimates were never in play.

Therefore, the concept of Arb Award coming in for a 1 or 2 year term at 7 or 8 is just plain ignorant at best...more like trolling.

It’s pretty simple when it comes to Reinhart

They could have gotten a bit more at arbitration but it could have been a 2 year deal which kept him as a RFA.

This way him and the team don’t have to go through the arbitration process, and for his sake hopefully the financial situation changes and he could sign a long term deal next off season.

For the team they get him on a decent contract for only one year and keep his RFA rights and don’t have to go through arbitration as well.

I would have preferred a long term deal but this way it gives the team and the player more options.

He has been in the top 3 in scoring on the Sabres for their first l 5 years as a Sabre and only Eichel, Dave A (who like Sam was vastly under appreciated in Buffalo) and Martin.

He’s good. Might not be great but he’s a good player.

You can keep denying and looking the other way, but when those lizards figure out how to get down here, yall are gonna be sorry.

That being said, the Reptilian Overlords like Reinhart and think signing him to a 1 year deal was a mistake, especially if he gets to play with Eichel and Hall. He's going to make a pretty penny after cashing in on that point total.

There's no bigger believer in the Overlords than myself and maybe Crag. If he thinks he's more devoted, I will knife him in the eye.

I think these negotiations would have been quite different if not for the covids. But he himself has a chance to further up his value, all the while the team gets to re-evaluate next season with RFA control. Next year, it's now or never. A 1 year deal, he's gone in 22. A long term deal if the money's there, 6.5x5.

I agree, it was a great deal for both sides given the circumstances. It's hard to argue that.

Oloffson is not getting 4.5+, especially after the Bertuzzi award so I believe they are in the same situation with him. The arb award can't be 2 years and at the very least he goes to arb gets a 3-3.5M deal for a year and we have his RFA rights next year.

No I wouldn't trade for him these days. I mean maybe if I was on NHL 20 I'd see what Mitts and Staal would net me. But realistically, no. But they have plenty of parts we could use. I'd try to do Hanifin or Valimaki for Ristolainen.

They seem pretty set on this team as of now, we have to many D men but that may or may not be addressed. Risto fits better here then Montour.

Think it's a bad look to send players in the hearing. I don't understand why Detroit felt the need to drag that into arb. They have a poop load of cap space today and tomorrow.

I can't help feeling that Olofsson and Kubalik will have virtually the same contract. Or at least the cap.
