This is a very astute observation. Commendations.

The self-righteousness is from people like you, not the Coyotes. You're the one making a judgment based on one article that takes only one side of the story, and another based on the scouting report of a limited sample size of teams. You come to the conclusion that the Coyotes were wrong to draft him despite the fact that you really know nothing of the story other than what the media reports, despite the fact that you don't see any team's real scouting report on the guy, despite the fact that you weren't in on any team's conversations with the player or related parties, and despite the fact that you have absolutely zero idea what else the Coyotes and their background team uncovered before, during and after the incident. That's the epitome of self-righteousness.

It's one thing to say "I'm glad the Sabres didn't draft him" or even "I wouldn't even go near him if I were making the call". It's a completely different thing to criticize the Coyotes for doing so when you have absolutely zero idea of the process they went through to make their decision.

I know that he abused the Hell out of the kid and bullied a black, cognitively disabled kid repeatedly and was legally held accountable for it. I know that he was taken off at least some teams draft boards because they thought he was such a scum. I know that he didn't reach out to the kid and apologize.

Regarding the Coyotes that you are so fixated on and want to believe that what they did was so righteous and honorable. I could see that maybe being the case if the bully sociopath hockey player showed remorse and reached out to the kid he abused and his family. I could see if that hockey player was a minority himself and they wanted to give a 2nd chance but giving a privileged white guy who abused a black special needs kid repeatedly just because the owner is a minority lacks logic. That is a made-up rationale in your mind. What is more logical is that the team, scouts, and GM who lost their 1st round pick and traded their 2nd and 3rd were excited to draft him because he was rated higher than where their draft spot was in the 4th round and was willing to draft him, sell a few of their morals and the heat they would have to take because they were able to draft a player they perceived to be better than a 4th round talent. That is more realistic than a pro hockey team wanting to give the poor thug, as they shed tears, a chance. Because hearts are so tender and warm in pro sports, the NHL and that kid sociopath just drew a warm feeling from that organization that the chance was the reason not his ability and what he could do for that team. RIGHT!!

Ex-addicts sometimes become counselors. Former gang members sometimes become community advocates. Ex convicts sometimes work with the police to assist in catching criminals. And sometimes former racists/bigots become equality advocates.

People have the ability to change, the ability to turn their lives around and the ability to help others. There's no doubt "mistakes" (errors in judgement/actions of hate) were made in the past. But maybe, the minority owners that are fighting for equality took a player that is hoping to be that guy who changes into a beacon for change. Not accepting the possibility of the scenario, is the self righteousness being described above.

It's all I will say on the topic.
