Pilut was an asset that could have been kept on a one way contract that we bungled and lost to the KHL.

On a team that lacks depth at LHD that’s why most people were upset.

He could have played on the third pair with Risto on a cheap one way deal and that would have been one less hole to fill on the backend.

- Pegullaville

That is the disconnect though.
He's a 3rd pairing, plays better with Risto...Risto at $5.5m is not a cost-effective 3rd pairing.
Maybe with Borgen, absolutely.

Trade Risto, Montour.
Let Pilut playout in KHL this season
Sell Miller during next offseason.

Would this Sabres d, as constructed, benefit more from what Pilut brings or more from a defensive-minded LHD?

Pilot does nothing for this team... another undersized D-Man that doesn't play defense...

Good post

The love affair for below average prospects defenseman is strange.

Who does he beat out for a top 6 spot?

Risto
McCabe
Dahlin
Joker
Montour
Miller
Irwin

More of a defensive minded!

Although, what would look better...

Option 1-

Dahlin. Miller.
Pilut. Joker.

Option 2-

Dahlin. Defensive vet RD
Pilut. Miller.

Option 3-

Dahlin. Miller.
Defensive Ld. Risto or Monte or Joker

He clearly beats out Risto playing LD, as well as Monte on the left. Probably joker on the left. Most likely miller on the left.

He probably does not beat out McCabe and certainly doesn’t beat out Dahlin on the left.

I don’t know enough about Irwin.

The new gm just signed irwin , so my guess is they like him and expect him to be a top 6

Pilut?

Borgen or anybody else from Rochester?

Solid question.

I think a strong defensive Dman is needed at both 2LhD and at 1RhD.

The premise is to pair a strong defensive Dman with a solid Puck Mover/ Offesive contributor at all three pairings, and would be ideal if they were sp,it on the Rcand L sides.

They have good Puck Movers /Offensive contributors in
- Dahlin at 1LhD
- Joker at 2RhD ( although his O game is not as good as his puck mover skill set)

At Defesive Dman, IMO they have that in Miller at 3RhD.

Monte and Risto aren't dood defensively, and neither is a 1st Pairing...making them more or less redundant to Miller.

I think Borgen kicks Miller out next year (20 - 21) at 3RhD, and maybe Samuelson does the same at 3LhD.

So, the net of all that is I would like Defensive Dmen at 1RhD and 2LhD for Dahlin and Joker's partners

Just my thoughts

Edit:
Upcoming '20 season
Dahlin - Defensive Dman
Defensive Dman - Joker
McCabe Miller

'20 - 21 Season
Dahlin - Defensive Dman
Defensive Dman - Joker
Samuelson - Borgen

I will throw my 2 cents on the topic

Mahomes
Wilson
Brady
Rodgers

maybe Murray after Sunday night

that's about it

I'd still throw a 2 year deal at Chara

perfect for middle pair and locker room

Good idea staying away from Sabres talk. 5.2 million is nothing to talk about. πŸ˜€

So what?

Teams crossed Josh Allen off their list for his "insensitive" Twitter comments in high school.

- buffalofan19

Nah they didn't as those tweets didn't come out until the night before the draft and he was only quoting modern Family, he wasn't bullying

Irwin listed as a Rd. On cap friendly. Not even a Rd/Ld like some.

Avalanche managed to sign Devon Toews to a 4 year deal. 4.1 mil. Pretty solid for a good #2/3 D man.

Impossible for the Sabres though

It's fun to bring up when the "insider" was completely wrong again.

What happened to 7 or 8 million a year?

If the Sabres felt the same way as you sam swallowers, he would have got a long term deal.

Take the L, so funny ,now the conversation is old. He just signed the deal 2 days ago. πŸ˜‰

You're right. πŸ›Ž
On template, they have him listed as a " L"

Its left handed shot πŸ™Š

I don't understand what one player has to do with any other player

This is an obscure offseason, where players have admitted that long term dollars are really not available. We will know the Sabres feelings next year, with Sam's last year of eligibility. If he receives one year, he's gone. If he prices himself out for too large of a long term deal, he'll get 1 year, 6M and jet.

Statistically he's a top line player since 2015. These are facts, not opinions.

The Sabres fail to sign young, good players to long term value deals. All the time

Other teams have no issues doing it.
