It's a problem for sure. But my point was, if there is no pause and we go straight into playoffs this year, maybe he shows up and plays a lot better and we're not having this conversation.

I know I'm in the minority, but I don't care if he parties in the offseason and starts slow, so long as he figures out how to show up when it really matters.

It'd be one thing if he started slow but then by the end of the year he was on every shift and owning that potential of his. Most people could overlook that. He isn't, though. His "momentum" by the end of the season is still an inconsistent, mentally lapsing, and a defensively unaware player. So even when he's rolling into the playoffs, he's taking shifts/games off when it matters.

He would be better than the version of this year's playoffs, for sure. But that's not saying that much.

I guess one way or another we're going to see if he can improve his consistency and cut down on the mental lapses over the next 2 years.

He's one guy that I can't figure out what he'll get in terms of ice time. He's the 2nd best RW on the team currently, but playing with Bo doesn't make a ton of sense given that the 2nd line plays a matchup role almost every night. Do they bump Boeser off the top line to play Jake there? Or do they stick him in the bottom 6, elevating someone else to play with Bo, leading fans to moan about how he's not getting enough opportunity?

The fish that guy’s holding in the back row is crazy big. What a porker!

Ya, I agree – it's hard to see how Jake meshes with this team. Ideally he's on the 3rd line providing great depth scoring. He doesn't fit super well with Petey having to move Boes down, and he's not responsible enough to play with Bo against top lines.

Let's just hope training with Myers all summer gets him into a better headspace, and Myers is able to chat to him about the thinking part of the game and develop his brain a bit

Based on his PIM count in the playoffs I'm not sure Myers is the best guy for that

I think he would have received a little mo-m-more in arbitration, perhaps 2.6 to 2.75, but would have only gotten a one year deal.
I agree with your post.

Greetings,

New blog is up, with thoughts on Virtanen, comparables, and possible next steps to get cap compliant.

Dmitri Zlodeyev having a good start. I'm hoping he makes the WJC if it happens.

He's not on LTIR right now, no – but you can backdate LTIR. The Canucks would have a pretty easy case as he left the bubble due to his head injury.

Also, it's far from certain he's going to attend training camp. His agent said they're talking about it, but they're taking his health into account first and foremost.

There's a lot of uncertainty, clearly, but there's also a lot of time before the season starts.

- NewYorkNuck

Best case for LTIR is if he is declared unfit during training camp, I think it was a neck injury that kicked him from the bubble.

I hope he comes back and isn't injured for the remainder of his contract, think he's a good player as long as he plays his style.

Of course you have to be cap compliant, not saying you can't be. I'm thinking they'll just buy out Sutter and that will be that.

You can also "feel good" as you're recovering from an injury and still be on the LTIR

But yes, I would much rather have a healthy, fired up Ferland than spend money on another player. However, the good chance of him getting another head injury and ruining his life makes me hope he never plays again in the NHL for his and his family's sake.

YK is more international than Van Island

From my experience on the island you're either Chinese, or an old white person complaining about all the Chinese people

I'm neither... although I'm 40 now... but that's the new thirty, right?

That's the big thing: why did it hurt him more than others? Basically, because he's an idiot who doesn't know or care how to be a professional. And that shows up on the ice. It's one of those things he'll never really fully figure out.
- NewYorkNuck

He has a slow metabolism.... gyms were closed so he couldn't work out.
He is addicted to hot dogs and beer.
He quit cocaine which was keeping the weight off.

All these excuses and more, coming soon to a season near you.
