Sadly, this very strange vision misses my meaning. Character build in a weight room farm-facade would be no different than a normal weight room.

There are too many lessons to summarize quickly but think of pulling your own weight, working as a team, shoveling sh!t side by side with a friend, taking care of animals that depend on you...not just hauling two 5-gallon buckets of water, 50 lb feed sacks, baling hay, or chopping wood. Lessons only the real lifestyle can give.

Doing that kind of work has many benefits. On the downside, pay attention to details as it can lead to a lifetime of back problems....The voice of experience.

I was trying to provide a satire, Kubrick/Orwell style. Evidently not well enough.

The point I was satirizing is that if something in the modern world can be proven to help any company/institution's goals, it will likely be adopted in some form.

That's why big companies offer green tea at the cafeteria, and have meditation classes, and yoga, and pay for gym membership and so on and so on.

Well of course you always think you make sense when you spew the rhetoric that you do. That's how you and others who have been indoctrinated think. Not for yourself or as an individual but rather as a trained puppy.
- MJL

I've always enjoyed and respected your comments about hockey, but your constant criticism of this one poster is making it very difficult to take you seriously anymore. Everyone is influenced by their life experience. Saying someone has been indoctrinated because they think differently than you is such a weak statement...especially in this case. From what I've seen the guy post here he seems like he enjoys being a contrarian too much to accept anything without an obnoxious level of critical thought

It’s just a great place ....it’s a small city...35k, an hour to downtown TO...and a couple hours from cottage country. Lucky because I always felt a need to Move to be successful ....but found opportunity right here amongst friends and family.

You are a lucky dude indeed then. Most people have to choose between the two.

Your country is a bit of a mystery to me. I have had Canadian friends, a roommate for years, been there 10-15 times, dated a Canadian woman (who went on to be a big shot in the local fire department of the redneck area where she was born and grew up). In individual interactions, beyond some superficial characteristics (Canadians are more mellow, more polite etc.), there is not much difference between us as people.

And yet on a macro scale, I am not sure there are any two neighboring countries on earth which have the same culture that have yet produced such vastly different institutions. Your right wing party is to the left of our left wing one in most matters outside the economic sphere. You have a multi-party parliamentary system, state funded health care, a state funded dominant broadcasting channel, a lot of emphasis on K 12 education.. A lot of government money is spent on explicit multicultural policies. Religion hardly plays any explicit role in your politics, to the best of my knowledge.

Its like an European system in institutions, and an American one as people.

Quite weird.

I have never lacked self-confidence, in person or on the Interwebs, but I don't try to be a contrarian.

I am an intensely logical dude. In a sports board, that can certainly be jarring, but I don't try to hold opinions for shock value.

You are mistaken on the reason why. It is not because "they" think differently than me. Lots of people think different than I do about a number of things on here. Have you ever heard me refer to anyone else as indoctrinated? Also, I don't care if you take me seriously or not.

I liken the Conservative party here closer to the Dems in the US...both fiscally and on certain social views....then every other party moves further and further left....public health care is a good thing, but along with other social programs (old age pension, CPP )is the reason why we are taxed so much. I chuckle when I here the rates you guys pay. We are a socialist country in a lot of ways...the conservative government just seems to be more responsible in protecting the programs with more restraint then the other parties, but make no mistake those programs aren’t going anywhere. We don’t have huge military spending, thanks in part to our neighbours to the south. Your correct in suggesting religion not playing a huge roll in our political system but it’s there. More so now but much more diversity in the different religions and influences.
Every thing south seems much more one or the other and there’s much more bitterness between peoples views then here. Sometimes here it’s hard to tell our parties apart.
The state owned (CBC)Broadcasting isn’t what it used to be. Crappy content for the most part..we have all the US channels. There are things I love about the US, but there are things I wouldn’t change about Canada as well. I love visiting the US but would never want to live there over Canada.

For most posters I would have just thought they were joking...

It would be ineffective in a compartment and away from the real thing. Farm work is not like any of the examples you mention. It would be best to consider doing the work temporarily to gain the experience, like summer employment or internship.

Tranquillo, buzzdeckos!

All I suggested was to post the link (which I did myself). I found that the formatting made reading it easier, and I liked seeing the photographs and the embedded social media posts included within the article.

It's someone else's problem—not yours, nor mine—if they're not resourceful enough to gain access to the story if they're not subscribers.

Yes, that is my impression. I subscribe to the Globe and Mail and read it every day. Highly interesting, not just in content, but also in style. Like reading British newspapers from 20+ years ago. There is an anachronistic staidness.

Ah, so you get the NBC hockey broadcasts for example? I was just asking Hextall271 how he hears Emrick. How does that work? SportsNet paid a huge amount to NHL - I would have thought they got exclusive rights.

It is mine if I want to draw attention to the some parts of the story and half the people would get thwarted because of technical reasons.

This point is perfectly illustrated by the first paragraph of page 3 here, which I am sure you will agree with.

I get bored sometimes with the Canadian broadcast and enjoy switching it up with the NBC broadcast...also the NHL package allows us to view a lot of different broadcasts as well. If the games on NBC...it’s never blacked out.

How are games split between CBC and Sportsnet? Are there NBC broadcasts available for games on the latter?

Interesting comparison. I have a bit of experience. I'm an old (frank). First trip to Canada was mid 60s to the falls. At the falls again in 69 on a camping trip that passed through Algonquin. Actually watched the first lunar landing on a 13" tv in the laundry at the falls.
Camped a bunch in Quebec.
Then not til 2 tears ago. Spent half my time here cause you won't let me stay more than half a year. My doctors are here. I pay cash, cheaper than using MEDICARE, which covers none of my needs.
I came up the last time March 15th. They closed the border 3 days later. I've been here since. I can't leave til the border is FULLY open both ways. I can't afford my meds in the states. I stay with friends. We've been in discussions. At this point looks like I'm staying put. I have multiple under lying conditions. As do the other 2 people I stay with. Super careful. Guess what? No one us freaking sick here.
I was staying North Jersey. Pretty much more cases and more deaths in Jersey than all if Canada. I can't go back. I'll freaking die.
I don't see a huge difference in the cultures. We say Canada is the home if the nice white people. I try to fit in. I love it here. I have few friends left and virtually no family. I'm living with my 2 best friends left. I'm good here. If I never make it back I'm ok with that. I really don't feel much difference. My main reason would be to travel through areas I haven't seen yet. A lot if Canada i haven't seen too. It's a great big beautiful country full of good people.
Oh, BTW, the Hockey Hall is coming up next few weeks. Bucket list. I'm in Milton, an hour or so away. I don't move to well any more but I still move. The liberal cannabis laws are good for my neuropathy. My sanity too.
As Yakov Smirnoff used to say, "what a country".
Thanks for having me.
