So, what would be easier? Instruct people to do all that or just cut and paste the relevant points?

Interesting how many of you Canadians have worked in a farm. Wonder if that contributes to the lack of political polarization in your country compared to ours.

I feel in this country we are leading increasingly parallel lives. We should be sending college kids from urban areas to farms instead of sending them to do study abroad programs. The cultural distance is just as high, and the learning value is probably higher.

LK, I always make sense. You just like some of it, and don't like others. The former part you call commonsense, the latter you call communism, and in both instances, I just call you wrong.

Well of course you always think you make sense when you spew the rhetoric that you do. That's how you and others who have been indoctrinated think. Not for yourself or as an individual but rather as a trained puppy.

Excerpts from the Philadelphia Inquirer today for those out of town:

I selected two interesting tidbits in bold re: his strength and his skating improvement.

Foerster, 18, had one of the hardest shots of any of the 217 players selected in the recent NHL draft.

But, make no mistake, Foerster’s blistering shot, which has been compared to (gulp) Alex Ovechkin’s, is his calling card.

Thousands of hours on the ice have perfected it. Countless hours in the weight room have helped, along with sweaty summers working on his grandparents' sheep farm, located about 10 minutes from his parents' home in Alliston, Ontario.

He stacks the hay, works the fields with his tractor, shovels manure, takes care of the animals, and cleans out the stalls, along with other jobs.

Stacking 500 to 1,000 bales of hay a day helped him build up strength, which helps give him a more powerful shot. The bales weigh about 50 pounds each. “It’s not the easiest job, but I think it’s worth it,” the affable Foerster said. “I like helping my grandparents out and I’m also getting a bit of a workout.”

Foerster’s skating was rated as just average, which is why he fell to No. 23, scouts said. But his once-choppy skating has improved greatly since the Ontario Hockey League season ended, according to Paul Matheson.

Matheson is the skating coach for Foerster’s OHL team, the Barrie Colts, and also his personal instructor. He has been working with Foerster once a week since June, and he said the big forward’s work ethic is off the charts.

Foerster used to skate awkwardly, but not anymore.

If you last saw him in the OHL last season and looked at him now, he’s a “different skater,” Matheson said.

This past summer, Foerster "made noticeable progress,” Matheson said. “Unfortunately, not many people have gotten to see that” because the pandemic has delayed the start of the 2020-21 OHL season.“Before, he was working hard, but the work wasn’t really well-directed toward being a good skater. It was just hard work for the sake of hard work. His efficiency is much better; he’s in much more powerful positions. Everything has improved dramatically.”

Matheson paused.

“There’s still work to do, but from where he was, there’s going to be a lot of people who are going to be very surprised at how much of a different skater he is from the middle of March, when everything shut down. After everything we’ve done, he hasn’t had a chance to try it out yet in a game situation and see how it holds up. He’s on the ice with other pro players that are bigger and stronger than him and he holds his own, skating-wise, quite easily now— and that’s very positive.”

Hmmm, Gordie Howe spent his summers as a teen hauling bags of cement and he gave it credit for his powerful upper body strength. From the highlights I’ve seen, his shot is an absolute rocket. If he can just be an average skater at the NHL level, he could be a star.

In the Athletic today, I saw Hoffman's agent say the player has no issues with a 1 year deal.

We have 4.81 m as of now, apparently. If we can free up just 2 m odd I am sure that would be enough for a 1 year deal.

I didn't want him long term but he would certainly help that pp1 for a year.

Exactly

And personally, I think the perspective that manual labor gives you is more valuable than those inevitable questions like “just how much can you lift?” Strength in more ways than one.

The Flyers current cap figure is with Myers still not signed and with only 11 forwards. So they have to add at least one forward and account for Myers to be re-signed. Plus you need wiggle room for injuries. Which should be at least 800K to 1M of available cap space. Even with a trade of Gostisbehere, which would have to be for a return of no cap space taken back, makes it highly unlikely.

I totally get it and see the future.

A weight room with holograms of farm stuff, flat panels with pictures of pasture, cows and chicken sounds piped in, humidifiers with hay scented air, and bags of cement with handles for weights.

All this, with blue-tooth electrodes on your chest spewing out biometric data to your strength coach, who is dressed like a farmer, gazing at his Ipad hidden in a tuft of hay.

There’s polarization here....not quite what I see in the US, but it’s here. I ended up staying in the same town I grew up in, which I Now consider to be lucky...I’m sure there’s tons of kids in Toronto that never worked on a farm....But I wasn’t a city kid.

No. The Democrats won't let any Republicans in. Fraud is easier when the opposition isn't allowed to watch.

Interesting use of words. Why "lucky" to stay where you grew up?

No need to answer this question if its personal, I won't care at all, just a lazy query. Like Scoob, I like to form mental pictures of my Internet comrades.

It’s just a great place ....it’s a small city...35k, an hour to downtown TO...and a couple hours from cottage country. Lucky because I always felt a need to Move to be successful ....but found opportunity right here amongst friends and family.

Sadly, this very strange vision misses my meaning. Character build in a weight room farm-facade would be no different than a normal weight room.

There are too many lessons to summarize quickly but think of pulling your own weight, working as a team, shoveling sh!t side by side with a friend, taking care of animals that depend on you...not just hauling two 5-gallon buckets of water, 50 lb feed sacks, baling hay, or chopping wood. Lessons only the real lifestyle can give.

You're talking about a real world learned experience. PT21 doesn't know what that is.
His response is not at all surprising.
