How do you think the season would've gone without Markstrom last year? Sure, everything can go well and they make a playoff run again, but it's more likely they miss the playoffs.

What have they done to address the fact that they were one of the worst defensive teams last year?

- Hunkulese

Marky Mark was the MVP... Lucky to get in. So the 1st is more valuable as a lottery pick. Any team wanting a lottery pick should be interested. I would expect Detroit to bite at some point. Just wait out the market until they take the 1st as the bait, or stick with what you got.

It's not like we have a couple of plugs in net. One has a cup ring and the other is one of the best young tenders in the game. And I would take Nate Schmitd's skating and puck moving skills ahead of Tanev's 60 games a year any day of the week. Don't tell me the Flames are light years ahead of the Nucks in skill because from where I see it. The two teams are pretty even. Your defense core may be better all around but we have a pretty special kid in Hughes who can and will be a game changer for many years to come.

They're the fourth-best team on paper. If they can turn Eriksson into Hoffman, it makes things closer, but they're still probably fourth.

Hes right lol. Don't let the summer covid cup fool you. Nucks were not even on pace to make playoffs before season ended. Its like thinking the Habs are a better team than Pitty because of 3 games.

Must be an honor to have been up 1-2 points on the Canucks during the regular season.

If the Nucks kept pace with their point % then yes they would have locked down the 7 spot. So your statement is null and void

And then they lost their best player and made a lateral move on defence.

Haha you guys weren't even in a wildcard spot. You were 2-3 in your final 5 games. Now you lost your MVP Marky who was the only reason you were even sniffing the wildcard, you lost 25+ goals in Toffoli. Nucks finish 4th in the div next year.

Covid Cup playoffs fooled a bunch of franchises into thinking they're on the cusp because they got in as a 9-12 seeds

Don't see a single message about any teams that were 9-12 seeds.

It's also the NHL. There are probably eleven teams in the West that could make the finals if everything goes their way. Look what happened this year.

In general, the Flames have been a playoff team for the last two years. A down year for most of the top players and Gio basically half his production. That and we had uneven performances from Rittich and Talbot. Some games they looked like MVP's but Rittich especially fell off the 2nd half.

Even with that, Rittich still had equal or better stats than Holtby. Markstrom was better. So you have downgraded on the starter and swapped a RD for a LD.

The point is that the Flames underachieved last year and the Nucks overachieved by most analysts. Similar results in one year does not make them near even. Doesn't mean the Nucks are not improving, but you can't just look at one year and say they are that good overall.

That's what happens when one team is trending down like CGY and one team is trending up like the Nucks.

Plus those same 'analysts' have Van,Edm, and Mtl as the most improved teams in the off season.

Markstrom will help CGY if his groin holds up. Tanev will be the wild card for CGY as th guy just can't stay healthy with the way he plays. He'll be another Kris Russell for you.

Now with Hughes/Schmidt and Edler/Myers in our top 4 we can round that out nicely. Gio is on his way down. Lost Brodie which will hurt more than you think.

lol Turris and Barrie will help EDM huge.

We lost Kesler...made PO's

Lost Sedins...made PO's

Lost Markstrom and will make PO's

Johnny Hockey wants out of Calgary and when Markstrom goes down to injury it's big trouble. Tanev won't improve your D. Super soft and plays reckless. Kris Russell 2.0

Flames will hang around the WC but will most likely miss. Is what it is. Building around talents like Pettersson and Hughes will be much easier than circling the drain with Gaudraue/Gio lol

Good luck
