I like Brodie more than Barrie and Bogosian more than Ceci. Brodie helps to give the team a proper top 4 structure that Barrie couldn't do because the team didn't have a defensive player to support him. That said, it's also plausible that Babcock's usage and expectations of Barrie ruined that experiment out of the gate. Bogosian is just a meaner Ceci, I think (I can't make any firm assertions - I've never really watched nor noticed Bogosian, other than seeing him hit people) - but I think that's good for what we want from him.

I'm less sold on the moves up front. I think if you asked any Leaf fan over the last year, we have all been willing to trade Kapanen or Johnsson at some point, so it's not that they have that great value - they're good 3rd liners who can slot up in the lineup when required. You want to get harder to play against, but I'm not sure if Simmonds does that. He hasn't had a positive GF% of xG% in 5 years. Thornton has been better, but the rate of decline that he's in is worrisome.

I'll be honest - I was happier with the addition of Barrie & Kerfoot last year than I am with the add of Thornton and Simmonds.

I can live with being wrong two years in a row.

Except those were worth about $6M vs $1.4

I'm not even bringing finance into this part of the discussion - that was based strictly on performance. There are cap reasons that things get done and we have to accept this, especially with the cap going flat. The question is - are we better?

The kids are young enough that you expect progression from Matthews, Nylander, Marner and likely Rielly as well. Hopefully Dermott starts to take a step forward - he is only 23.

Then strictly based on age, we'll probably see about the same from Kerfoot, Tavares, Hyman, Mikheyev, Brodie and Holl . . . and probably some regression from Muzzin, Spezza and Thornton . . .

So I know there's much hullabaloo on the Twitters this morning about the Happy Days reunion in support of Wisconsin Democrats, and how they are omitting Scott Baio.

Leaving politics aside (and I realize that's practically impossible), but why the frank would you want Chachi on the reunion anyways? By the time he had arrived, the show had already jumped the shark.

And that goes triple for Ted McGinley.

The show was actually funny for the first couple of seasons - they drank beer, they saw strippers - good stuff. Then it turned into a family show, and it really sucked.

I always found that Happy Days succumbed to the same problem that many successful shows do: they pander to the base desires of the audience. The first couple of seasons had more to do with Richie, Potsie and Ralph. But the Fonz was the character people glommed on to, so everything became centered around him - constantly, and the show stopped being funny. By example, Big Bang Theory had lots of promise, and lots of people will disagree with me, but I hated how they changed it to centre around the Sheldon character. I always liked Barney in How I Met Your Mother, so changing it to centre around him more than Ted probably helped that show, but it's another example where the intent of the show was altered or directed by the audience too much.

I like Weegar. I don't know what you'd have to give up. If it's a Kerfoot, then you need to find someone who can replace Kerfoot - and that's not that easy. You want a guy who can play wing, or possibly 3C if Thornton can't keep pace with third line play (I seriously don't think he can) . . . There's no realistic target on Florida that makes a Dermott + Kerfoot for Weegar + C/W work. Capwise there are options, but nothing that really works in terms of why Florida would do it, or why Toronto would want the player.

If you work in some type of a Kerfoot for Weegar deal, and use that spare cap to pay for Weegar, you still need to replace Kerfoot with something, and there's really nothing left in the UFA space that's going to come cheap enough to fill that void (Soderberg, Granlund, Athansiou and Haula would be the best options, but I think all would come in over $2M).

Maybe, Kerfoot and Holl for Weegar and Acciari?

I'm not old enough to remember these shows.

But "The Office" is my all time favourite show and I'm pretty sure it would be chased off the air aswell.

I have no idea what’s on network t.v. shows. If the Office is too edgy, I can’t imagine how bad it is.

Steve Carrell I believe even said so. People have been wishing to see Michael Scott's take on todays issue but Carrell even knows that it wouldn't be appropriate.

In that case I think the right comparison is looking at the bottom of the lineup (Clifford, Gauthier vs Simmonds, Thornton)

The biggest determination of progress will be what we see from the top end guys, especially in the playoffs.

Yep. The radio schlocks can kiss Barclay Who?drow and Baked Coldman's asses all they want, but if Vasilevski isn't killing it every night, Hedman playing 30 minutes of elite two-way play or Kucherov and Point not dominating everybody, they don't win.
