It's so early. I'm not sure I've seen ANYTHING I like in Liljegren yet, but I haven't seen anything I don't like yet either. He hasn't impressed, and he's made a couple of gaffes that you'd expect from a kid . . . if someone is willing to pay for his ceiling (and I think his ceiling is top-4, not top-2) with term and cost control, then you probably make the trade.

I watch a lot of Marlies games and he's been their best player 2 years running. He's done nothing but get better from what I watch. He won't be an offensive dynamo or anything but he's a very solid player.

But will that translate to the NHL is the question. I hope it does and I think it will at this point still.

To the Leafs I hope. I saw on Twitter, David Pagnotta was saying that about Weegar as well..
- PatC80

I like Weegar. I don't know what you'd have to give up. If it's a Kerfoot, then you need to find someone who can replace Kerfoot - and that's not that easy. You want a guy who can play wing, or possibly 3C if Thornton can't keep pace with third line play (I seriously don't think he can) . . . There's no realistic target on Florida that makes a Dermott + Kerfoot for Weegar + C/W work. Capwise there are options, but nothing that really works in terms of why Florida would do it, or why Toronto would want the player.

If you work in some type of a Kerfoot for Weegar deal, and use that spare cap to pay for Weegar, you still need to replace Kerfoot with something, and there's really nothing left in the UFA space that's going to come cheap enough to fill that void (Soderberg, Granlund, Athansiou and Haula would be the best options, but I think all would come in over $2M).

Apparently Weegar isn't happy with the Panthers and their offers. Seems like he'll still get traded.

Pretty normal stuff.

Mikheyev is asking for 1 x 2.7

Leafs offering 2 x 1.

It's a brutal game.

Could replace Kerfoot with a garbage can on fire or similar. Average centre who's horrible on the wing. Can pretty much find that anywhere.

Cool. Thank you. You sort of need to hear that he is showing this progress at some level. His sparingly few NHL appearances have been mediocre at best. The biggest problem that Liljegren has is that prior to his draft year he was a top-3 draft candidate who plummeted in value. So expectations are high for him.

Well, that's THEORETICALLY possible, but Kerfoot is a winger who can play centre poorly . . .well, we have that in Nylander already - but let's say you don't want to disrupt the top 6. If you want a winger who can slot into the top-6, or play 3C, then they aren't that readily available. Especially after everyone has gone free agent shopping. And not that have a cap hit around $2M.

I don't like Kerfoot that much or anything, but I recognize that he's a pretty capable winger.

Thing is..Weegar is under 60 years old...so don’t think Dufus will be that interested.

If Mikheyev gets over 2 million then I'm going to start arguing that both the refs and arbitrators are against us.

I think its even less. What did he do to get that money? 10% more than his last contract would be just over a million. He had an injury so he has minimal points to go off of.

Hoping for good things.

JT and Matthew's still need to lead the team though. Those other guys will help support and thats it.

Asking Papi to lead Sleepy Joe is a tall order.

Like asking a young actor to lead this guy...

Guys, don’t think of Bruised as a troll. See him for what he is: a frightened, broken boy/man who has come to us looking for help.

Let’s strive to be that warm and supportive place he needs. Maybe some day he’ll be able to tell his therapist what bad things happened and let the healing begin.

I like Brodie more than Barrie and Bogosian more than Ceci. Brodie helps to give the team a proper top 4 structure that Barrie couldn't do because the team didn't have a defensive player to support him. That said, it's also plausible that Babcock's usage and expectations of Barrie ruined that experiment out of the gate. Bogosian is just a meaner Ceci, I think (I can't make any firm assertions - I've never really watched nor noticed Bogosian, other than seeing him hit people) - but I think that's good for what we want from him.

I'm less sold on the moves up front. I think if you asked any Leaf fan over the last year, we have all been willing to trade Kapanen or Johnsson at some point, so it's not that they have that great value - they're good 3rd liners who can slot up in the lineup when required. You want to get harder to play against, but I'm not sure if Simmonds does that. He hasn't had a positive GF% of xG% in 5 years. Thornton has been better, but the rate of decline that he's in is worrisome.

I'll be honest - I was happier with the addition of Barrie & Kerfoot last year than I am with the add of Thornton and Simmonds.

I can live with being wrong two years in a row.
